REMOVAL OF UNUSED CONCESSIONS

One of the decisions taken by government following the review of the tariff concession system in May 1991 was that concessions will be removed if they have not been used to import goods over a two year period.

The purpose for periodically reviewing the concession list is to ensure that it is kept to a manageable size by removing those concessions that are no longer required.

A number of concessions have been identified on the Customs computer database as not having been used over the two year period 2000/2001. The reasons for non-usage are various, e.g., some goods have become duty free in Part I and others are clearly no longer imported.

As all the concessions to be removed were approved prior to March 1991, none of them were subject to the payment of a concession application fee.

The unused concessions to be removed will appear in this and future editions of the Gazette in the Third Schedule (Concession Approvals Withdrawn) prefixed by “RUC” – Revocation of Unused Concessions.

Should it prove necessary to reinstate a concession which has been removed, this will be done immediately effective from the concession’s original start date.
