OTAGO FISH AND GAME REGION

  1. INTERPRETATION
    "Fly fishing" In the Otago Region means to fish for sports fish with fly rod and reel and fly line and artificial fly, but with no additional weight to facilitate casting.

  2. OPEN SEASON

    2.1 Season: 1 October to 30 April:
    Nevis River.
    All waters of the Region except those specified in clause 2.2-2.5 and in clause 3 below.

    2.2 Season: All Year
    Akatore Estuary;
    Butchers Dam;
    Catlins River, downstream from the State Highway 92 road bridge;
    Careys Creek, downstream from Main Railway line bridge;
    Clutha River, except that river reach known as Deans Bank defined by a landmark post approximately 600 metres below Lake Wanaka outlet and a landmark post 600 metres above the Albert Town bridge;
    Coalpit Dam;
    Conroys Dam;
    Dart river, downstream from the Dart River bridge;
    Diamond Lake;
    Hawea River;
    Hoffmans Dam;
    Kawarau River;
    Lake Dunstan;
    Lake Hayes;
    Lake Hawea;
    Lake Johnson;
    Lake Onslow;
    Lake Roxburgh;
    Lake Waihola, including the waterways connecting this lake to Lake Waipori and east on waterways to the confluence with the Taieri River;
    Lake Waipori;
    Lake Wakatipu;
    Lake Wanaka;
    Moke Lake;
    Molynuex Pond;
    Owaka River, downstream from the Pounawea/Newhaven road bridge;
    Phoenix Dam;
    Puerua Estuary, downstream from the State Highway 92 bridge;
    Rees River, downstream from Muddy Creek;
