Declaration by Chief Electoral Officer That Alec Neill is Elected a Member of Parliament

WHEREASβ€”

A. I have received a warrant from His Excellency the Governor-General to supply a member of Parliament to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Simon Upton;

B. Under section 137 (2) of the Electoral Act 1993, I have determined that, of the unelected candidates on the party list of the National Party, Alec Neill stood highest in the order of preference on that list;

C. Under section 137 (3) of that Act, I have asked the Secretary of the National Party whether Alec Neill remains a member of that party and I have been informed by the Secretary of the National Party that he remains a member of that party;

D. Under section 137 (4) of that Act, I have asked Alec Neill whether he is willing to be a member of Parliament and he has indicated his willingness to be a member of Parliament;

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to section 137 (4) of that Act, I, David Robert Henry, Chief Electoral Officer, declare that Alec Neill is elected as a member of Parliament.
