New Zealand Food Standard 2001

Section 11L of the Food Act 1981

The New Zealand Food Standard 2001 was issued by the
Minister of Health on 20 December 2000.
The New Zealand Food Standard 2001 recognises changes
made by Amendment No. 53 to the Australia New Zealand
Food Standards Code (“the Food Standards Code”) made
under the Australia New Zealand Food Authority Act 1991,
an Act of the Australian Parliament.
The Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA)
gazetted Amendment No. 53 in Australia and New Zealand
on 20 December 2000.
Amendment No. 53 recognises the Australia New Zealand
Food Standards Code as consisting of two alternative
volumes:
Volume 1 is commonly known as the Australia
New Zealand Food Standards Code (“the joint code”).
Volume 2 as the Australian Food Standards Code
(AFSC).
The New Zealand Food Standard 2001 also revokes all
previous food standards issued under the Food Act 1981,
except for:
● The New Zealand (Mandatory) Food Standard 1997;
● The New Zealand (Maximum Residue Limits of
Agricultural Compounds) Mandatory Food Standard
1999 (and all its amendments);
● Any emergency food standards that are in effect when
the New Zealand Food Standard 2001 commences.

In effect, the New Zealand Food Standard 2001 consolidates
the New Zealand Food Standard 1996 and its amendments.
The New Zealand Food Standard 2001 and the material
incorporated into it by reference, i.e. the Food Standards
Code up to and including Amendment No. 53, is available
for inspection at the Ministry of Health, 133 Molesworth
Street, Wellington.
The New Zealand Food Standard 2001 may be viewed on
the Ministry of Health web site – www.moh.govt.nz
