National Curriculum Statement for Social Studies

Pursuant to section 60A of the Education Act 1989 (as amended by section 9 (1) of the Education Amendment Act (No. 4) 1991, section 7 of the Education Amendment Act 1993 and section 19 of the Education Amendment Act (No. 2) 1998), the Minister of Education hereby publishes the national curriculum statement known as “Social Studies in the New Zealand Curriculum”.

Copies of the statement can be obtained from Learning Media Limited, Box 3293, Wellington and/or from the Ministry of Education’s internet site at www.minedu.govt.nz/curriculum

State and integrated schools are to provide teaching and learning programmes based on the national curriculum statement for all students in years 1-10 from the commencement date of 14 February 2000.
