Citizens Initiated Referenda Act 1993

Notice of Proposal to Promote an Indicative Referendum Petition

Pursuant to section 7 of the Citizens Initiated Referenda Act 1993, I give notice that I have received from The Free New Zealand Party Society Incorporated a proposal to promote an indicative referendum petition.

The wording of the question proposed to be put to voters in an indicative referendum is:

“Should Government let New Zealanders have democracy by referendum where any individual or group can submit an idea and if we vote for it, then anyone can submit opinions which get numbered so we can list what we agree with and list what we disagree with, then the results are sent to four independent committees who create four separate laws and we vote for the most suitable one.”

Comment is invited on this wording.

Anyone wishing to comment must send 3 written copies to the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Parliament House, Parliament Buildings, Wellington, by 5.00 p.m. on Friday, the 6th day of August 1999.

Dated at Wellington this 29th day of June 1999.

D. G. McGEE, Clerk of the House of Representatives.
