Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations (General Licence for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) Notice 1999

Pursuant to regulation 13 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993 (‘‘the regulations’’), and acting under delegated authority from the Secretary of Commerce, I hereby give the following notice:

N o t i c e

1. Short title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations (General Licence for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) Notice 1999.

(2) This notice comes into force on 1 February 1999.

2. Interpretation—For the purposes of this notice:

(a) ‘‘Wireless local loop’’ means a telecommunications system which provides wireless access to a network for a number of handsets or terminals or data terminals, typically to serve a residential area, but does not include a system which allows for the automatic switching of handsets or terminals or data terminals between telecommunications systems.

(b) ‘‘Public service’’ means a system which enables a subscriber to use a handset or terminal or data terminal to access a network and to transmit or receive telephone calls in public places where base stations have been installed, and includes
