New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946

Notice of the Decision of the Minister for Food, Fibre, Biosecurity and Border Control re. the Assigning of Place Names

Pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice was given on the 26 March 1998 of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board to change the name of Sugar Loaf Islands to Ngā Motu/Sugar Loaf Islands; to correct the spelling of the name Johnston Peak to Johnston Peak; and to assign a new name, Muscle Cove. Objections were received to these proposed names and were dealt with pursuant to section 13 of the said Act.

I hereby declare that it is my decision that the names of these places shall be Ngā Motu/Sugar Loaf Islands, Johnston Peak and Muscle Cove, as referred to in the Schedule below, and that this decision shall take effect on the 8th day of June 1999.

Ngā Motu/Sugar Loaf Islands
Island group, near Port Taranaki, New Plymouth. Topographic map 260 P19 New Plymouth, GR 25978E 62386N. Currently known as Sugar Loaf Islands.

Marlborough Land District

Johnston Peak
Peak, near Mt Richmond, Richmond Range. Topographic map 260 O28 Wairau, GR 25444E 59699N. Correction from Johnson Peak.

Southland Land District

Muscle Cove
Cove, near the entrance to Wet Jacket Arm, Dusky Sound. Topographic map 260 B44 Resolution, GR 20223E 54867N. Not named on current mapping.
