New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946

Notice of Intention to Assign Place Names

Pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice is hereby given of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign the altered or new names stated in the first column of the Schedule below, to the respective places described in the second column of the Schedule.

Objection to the proposed names may be given in writing, setting out the grounds for objection, to the Secretary of the New Zealand Geographic Board, Care of Land Information New Zealand, Private Box 5501, Wellington, within a period of 3 months from the date of the New Zealand Gazette containing this notice.

North Auckland Land District

Te Ngaere
Coastal location approximately 10 km north east of Kaeo. Topographic map 260 P04 & Q04 Whangaroa, GR 25901E 66861N. Correction from Te Ngai re.

Ngaere Stream
Stream flowing through Te Ngai re location (current spelling) and into Taiaue Bay. Topographic map 260 P04 & Q04 Whangaroa, GR 25903E 66857N. Correction from Ngai re Stream.

Nelson Land District

Gowen River
River flowing from Lake Rotoroa into the Buller River. Topographic map 260 M29 Murchison, GR 24756E 59390N. Correction from Gowan River.

Gowenbridge
Locality situated on SH 6 between Murchison and St Arnaud. Topographic map 260 M29 Murchison, GR 24730E 59437N. Correction from Gowanbridge by previous Honorary Board decision of 1928.

Westland Land District

Mount Diedrichs
Mountain approximately 30 km south south east of Hokitika. Topographic map 260 J33 Kaniere, GR 23539E 58044N. Correction from Mount Diedrich.

Diedrichs Range
Range, extending southerly, through Jumble Top, Mt O'Connor, and Mt Ross. Topographic maps 260 J33 Kaniere and J34 Whitcombe, from GR 23557E 58029N to GR 23574E 57973N. Correction from Diedrich Range.

Diedrichs Creek
Creek flowing westerly from the Diedrich Range (current spelling) into the Hokitika River. Topographic map 260 J33 Kaniere, GR 23520E 58013N. Correction from Diedrich Creek.

Canterbury Land District

Tūtaepatu Lagoon
Lagoon situated between Woodend and the coast. Topographic map 260 M35 Christchurch, GR 24860E 57646N. Correction from Tutai Paku Lagoon by previous Board decision of 1982.

Otago Land District

Kelvin Peninsula
Locality near Frankton and Queenstown extending from where the Kawerau River meets Frankton Arm, and extending south westerly along the southern shore of Frankton Arm to the end of the peninsula in Lake Wakatipu. Topographic map 260 E41 Queenstown and F41 Arrowtown, GR 21685E 55648N to GR 21745E, 55663N. Not named on current mapping and replacing Kelvin Heights.

Old Man Range/Kopuwai
Range near Alexandra, extending northerly from the Coal Creek headwaters, through Hyde Rock and Obelisk, to Prospect Hill. Topographic maps 260 G42 Alexandra and G43 Roxburgh, from GR 22153E 55181N to GR 22133E 55461N. Extends existing range and replaces current Obelisk Range.

Old Woman Range
Range near Cromwell and Alexandra, extending northerly from Hyde Rock to Duffers Saddle. Topographic maps 260 G43 Roxburgh, F43 Garvie, and F42 Kingston, from GR 22122E 55287N to GR 22015E 55517N. Extends existing range.

Lake Roxburgh
Locality situated at the southernmost end of Lake Roxburgh. Topographic map 260 G43 Roxburgh, GR 22220E 55190N. Amendment from Roxburgh Hydro by previous Board decision of 1948.

Southland Land District

Stirling Head
Easternmost point of the headland, immediately north of Port Adventure, on Stewart Island/Rakiura. Topographic map 260 E49 Port Adventure, GR 21459E 53385N. Correction from Starling Head or Sterling Head.

Mount Philipps
Mountain near Milford Sound (locality). Topographic map 260 D40 & Pt C40 Milford, GR 21044E 56032N. Correction from Mount Phillips.

Mount Philipps
Mountain on Resolution Island. Topographic map 260 B44 Resolution, GR 20140 54794N. Correction from Mount Phillips by previous Board decision of 1966.

Mount Luxmoore
Mountain 10 km due east of Te Anau (locality). Topographic map 260 C43 Manapouri, GR 20866E 55218N. Correction from Mount Luxmore.

Pursuant to section 15 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice is hereby given of the final decision of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign the names stated in the first column of the Schedule below, to the place described in the second column of the said Schedule and that such decision shall take effect on 31 May 1999.
