New Zealand. Vessels with current licences and callsigns should continue to use this form of identification, and operators of new vessels are encouraged to obtain callsigns to assist in correct vessel identity. Vessels intending to voyage outside these limits may require specific licences with appropriate fees being paid.

This notice also authorises the use of radionavigation equipment on vessels provided they comply with the specific frequencies and technical specifications.

Broadcasting Act 1989

Direction to the Broadcasting Commission in Relation to Funding of Broadcasting Activities—National Radio and Concert FM

To the Broadcasting Commission

Pursuant to section 44 of the Broadcasting Act 1989 I hereby:

(1) Give you notice that it is part of the general policy of the Government in relation to broadcasting that the services known as National Radio and Concert FM shall continue to be funded by the Broadcasting Commission until at least 30 June 2001.

(2) Pursuant to that policy, direct that you shall:

(a) In the 3 year period commencing on 1 July 1998 and ending 30 June 2001, provide funding of no less than $21.4 million (exclusive of G.S.T.) per annum for the services known as National Radio and Concert FM;

and

(b) Use your best endeavours to negotiate contracts, in relation to the provision of funds for the services known as National Radio and Concert FM, that include conditions that require those services to be maintained at such a level that their audiences continue to consider that they are of high quality.

Revocation of Previous Direction

The “Direction to the Broadcasting Commission in relation to funding of Broadcasting Activities—National Radio and Concert FM” dated 11 September 1995 and notified to the Commission is revoked from 30 June 1998.

Board Appointed to have Control of Lake Okataina Scenic Reserve

Pursuant to subsection (1) of section 17 of the Maori Purposes Act 1931, the Administrator of the Government hereby appoints:

to be a special board by the name of Lake Okataina Scenic Reserve Board, to have control of the Reserves described in the Schedule hereto, as scenic reserves for a term of 7 years from 10 May 1997 to 9 May 2004.

In terms of section 17 (1) of the Maori Purposes Act 1931, this special board consists of not less than six persons, of whom five are members of Ngati-Tarawhai, subtribe of the Arawa Tribe.
