Assumption of the Office of Administrator of the Government by The Right Honourable Sir Ivor Lloyd Morgan Richardson, President of the Court of Appeal

A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was graciously pleased, by Letters Patent passed under the Seal of New Zealand, and bearing date the 28th day of October 1983, to provide that, whenever the office of Governor-General is vacant or the holder of the office is for any reason unable to perform all or any functions of the office, those functions should be performed by the Chief Justice of New Zealand as Administrator of the Government:
And whereas the Letters Patent provide further that where there is for the time being no Chief Justice able to so act, then the President of the Court of Appeal shall be so authorised, empowered, and commanded:
And whereas His Excellency the Governor-General, The Right Honourable Sir Michael Hardie Boys, is absent from the seat of Government and unable to perform all the functions of the office of Governor-General:
And whereas His Excellency the Administrator of the Government, The Right Honourable Sir Thomas Eichelbaum, is absent from the seat of Government and unable to perform all the functions of the office of Governor-General:
Now, therefore, I, Sir Ivor Lloyd Morgan Richardson, Knight, Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council, President of the Court of Appeal, hereby proclaim and declare that, having taken, in the manner prescribed by the Letters Patent, the oaths prescribed by the Letters Patent, I have on the 19th day of May 1998 assumed office as Administrator of the Government.
