Electoral Objections and Solutions

8 MAY NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE 1485

-- Traditional links and community of interest are not synonymous. If tribal affiliations are to be the focus then these are with Te Tai Tonga.

-- While the Electoral Act 1993 is not a vehicle for resolving Treaty claims the Commission as a statutory body should not act in a way that would exacerbate existing grievances or cause fresh prejudice to arise.

-- Commission’s deliberations undertaken with no prior consultation and conducted directly in the face of a pending Waitangi Tribunal report on these very issues.
