Departmental Notice
Electoral Act 1993
Declaration by Deputy Chief Electoral Officer
That Annabel Margaret Young be Elected a Member of Parliament
On Tuesday, 22 April 1997 I received a warrant from the Speaker of the House of Representatives to supply a member of Parliament to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Jim Gerard.
Pursuant to section 137 (2) of the Electoral Act 1993 I have determined that Annabel Margaret Young was the next unelected candidate whose name was included in the same party list as the member whose seat has been declared vacant and that it was Annabel Margaret Young’s name which stood highest in the order of preference.
Pursuant to section 137 (3) of the Electoral Act 1993 I have inquired of the secretary of the political party on whose list Annabel Margaret Young’s name appeared whether she remains a member of that party and I have been informed by the secretary of that political party that Annabel Margaret Young remains a member of that party.
Pursuant to section 137 (4) of the Electoral Act 1993 I have inquired of Annabel Margaret Young whether she is willing to be a member of Parliament and she has indicated her willingness to be a member of Parliament. Therefore, I, Hugh Lawrence Garland, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, declare that Annabel Margaret Young is elected as a member of Parliament.
Dated at Wellington this 22nd day of April 1997.
HUGH GARLAND, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer.
