The Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975
The State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986

This notice concerns land known as Aotuhia Station at Mangahehu Road, R.D. 22, Stratford, Eastern Taranaki, and Maori claims under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.

The land known as Aotuhia Station at Mangahehu Road, R.D. 22, Stratford, Eastern Taranaki, is described in legal terms as all that parcel of land containing 2697.6930 hectares, more or less, situate in Blocks VI, VII, X, XI, XIV and XV, Mahoe Survey District, being Sections 1 and 2 on Survey Office Plan 13241, Sections 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 on Survey Office Plan 13242, Sections 1, 2, 3, 4 and 9 on Survey Office Plan 13243, Section 1 on Survey Office Plan 13244, Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 on Survey Office Plan 13245, Sections 1 and 2 on Survey Office Plan 13246, Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 on Survey Office Plan 13247, Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 on Survey Office Plan 13248, Sections 1 and 2 on Survey Office Plan 13249, Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 on Survey Office Plan 13250, and Sections 1, 2 and 3 on Survey Office Plan 13251 and being all the land comprised and described in certificate of title J1/1079 (Taranaki Registry).

The land was once owned by the Crown. It was transferred to a State-owned enterprise under the State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986.

There is a special notice or “memorial” on the certificate of title for the land which provides that, if the Waitangi Tribunal recommends it, the land shall be resumed by the Crown and returned to Maori ownership (see sections 27A and 27B of the State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986).

The current owners of the land, RALPH HENRY VOSSELER and the proprietors of PARININIHI KI WAITOTARA BLOCK, have applied to the Waitangi Tribunal to have this notice removed. The application has been made under section 8D of the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.

ANY MAORI PERSON WHO CONSIDERS THAT THEY, OR ANY GROUP WHICH THEY BELONG TO, HAS A CLAIM TO MAKE TO THE WAITANGI TRIBUNAL ABOUT THIS LAND, SHOULD SUBMIT THEIR CLAIM TO THE WAITANGI TRIBUNAL BEFORE THE 4TH DAY OF JULY 1997.

Section 6 of the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975, describes what a claim is. Claims should be posted or sent to the Registrar, Waitangi Tribunal, 110 Featherston Street (P.O. Box 5022), Wellington.

If no claim about this land is made to the Waitangi Tribunal before the 4th day of July 1997, then the tribunal may recommend that the land no longer be liable to be resumed by the Crown and returned to Maori ownership under section 27B of the State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986.
