REMOVAL OF DUTY ON CERTAIN ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
You will have noticed in the First Schedule of Gazette Number 1996/23 of 25 June that several concession approvals were included removing the duty payable on rum from 1 March 1996 and brandy, bourbon and tafia from 1 July 1996 pending formal amendment of Part I of the Tariff.
The decision to remove the duty was made by the Minister of Commerce following a review of tariffs on Chapter 22 alcoholic beverages recently undertaken by the Ministry of Commerce.
Use of the Part II concession policy has the advantage of removing duties more quickly and has enabled the removal of duty on rum from the earlier date.
The Ministry in continuing to review the tariff on other Chapter 22 products including liqueurs.
