Minister of Commerce within 180 days on whether the anti-dumping duties should continue to be applied. Positive evidence justifying the need for a review would need to provide reasons for believing that the expiration of anti-dumping duties would see the recurrence of dumping of lead acid batteries from the Philippines and for believing that such dumping would cause material injury to the New Zealand industry producing lead acid batteries. The reasons should be supported by evidence and not based on mere allegations or assertions.

Further information is available from the Manager, Trade Remedies Group, Ministry of Commerce, P.O. Box 1473, Wellington, or on facsimile number (04) 499 8508.

Notice of Initiation of a Duty Reassessment for Plasterboard From Thailand

Pursuant to section 14 (6) of the Dumping and Countervailing Duties Act 1988 (“the Act”), and under delegated authority from the Secretary of Commerce, I hereby give notice that I have initiated a reassessment of the amount of anti-dumping duty in respect of imports into New Zealand of the goods described in the Schedule imported from Thailand.

Anti-dumping duty was imposed on plasterboard of nominal dimensions of 9 mm or 9.5 mm thickness by 1200 mm width by 2400 mm to 3600 mm in length, in a notice dated 26 February 1996 and published in the New Zealand Gazette on 7 March 1996, and a new anti-dumping duty was imposed on plasterboard having nominal dimensions of 9 mm or 9.5 mm thickness and lengths of either less than 2400 mm or greater than 3600 mm, in a notice dated 29 March 1996 and published in the New Zealand Gazette on 4 April 1996.

The purpose of the reassessment is to ensure that any changes in the elements between the non-injurious market price and the non-injurious f.o.b. price which may have occurred, are incorporated into the current anti-dumping remedy.
