Conservation

Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978

Application to Import Marine Mammal Product

Pursuant to sections 4 and 5 of the Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978, Robert Kirton of Auckland, has applied to the Minister of Conservation for a permit to import marine mammal product, namely a carved scrimshaw artefact from Russia, probably walrus tusk. The artefact is for his personal use only.

Any persons wishing to make submissions on this application should write to M. F. Donoghue, Species Protection Division, Department of Conservation, Private Bag 68-909, Newton, Auckland, within 28 days after the publication of this notice.

Criminal Justice Act 1985

Order for Confiscation of Motor Vehicle

Pursuant to Section 84 of the Criminal Justice Act 1985

On the 14th day of October 1996, at the District Court at Tauranga, Nathan John Curtis of 96 Maxwells Road, Tauranga, was convicted and sentenced to 7 months periodic detention and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment suspended for 2 years and disqualified from holding or obtaining a motor driver’s licence for 2 years from 30 June 1997, following his conviction on 2 charges of driving whilst disqualified having previously been disqualified.

And in addition to the above-mentioned penalty, Judge Rota has ordered that a yellow VJ Ranger Valient utility motor vehicle, registration No. HQ 4816 owned by the above-mentioned defendant, Nathan John Curtis, be forfeited to Her Majesty the Queen, pursuant to section 84 (4) of the Criminal Justice Act 1985.

The vehicle is to be surrendered to the Registrar, District Court, Tauranga or a bailiff of the District Court, Tauranga, by 9.00 a.m. on the 15th day of October 1996.
