Purpose of hunting Canada geese

The approval is subject to the conditions specified below.

Fish and Game Regions of:

  • Central South Island
  • Nelson/Marlborough
  • Otago
  • Southland
  • West Coast

Shotgun Calibre

Pursuant to section 18 (1) (v) of the Wildlife Act 1953, the Minister of Conservation approves persons to hunt or kill Canada geese within the Fish and Game Regions named hereto, with any shotgun of a calibre 10 gauge or less having a magazine of any type adjusted in accordance with regulations made under this Act. This approval shall apply only from, and including, the 3rd July 1995 in the Fish and Game Regions named hereto.

Fish and Game Regions of:

  • Auckland/Waikato

Camouflaged Rowboats

Pursuant to section 18 (1) (f) (vi) of the Wildlife Act 1953, the Minister of Conservation approves persons to hunt or kill game within the Fish and Game Regions named hereto, from unmoored camouflaged rowboats, subject to the conditions specified below. Fish and Game Regions of:

  • Northland
  • Nelson/Marlborough
  • Otago
  • Southland
  • Taranaki
  • West Coast

Eastern—applicable only to the estuarine waters of the Tauranga Harbour.

Wellington—applicable only for that remaining period of the open season for game in the Region, commencing 8 May 1995.

Conditions

  1. These approvals shall not derogate from the principal conditions specified for each Fish and Game Region under the Second Schedule, which shall apply.

  2. These approvals will expire at the end of the open season of game specified under the Second Schedule for each Fish and Game Region.

Northland Fish and Game Region

Game That May be Hunted or Killed

  • Grey, shoveler and mallard duck
  • Paradise shelduck
  • Black swan
  • Pukeko
  • California and brown quail
  • Cock pheasant

Duration of 1995 Season

  • 6 May to 2 July 1995 incl.
  • 6 May to 30 July 1995 incl.
  • 6 May to 2 July 1995 incl.
  • 6 May to 27 August 1995 incl.
  • 6 May to 27 August 1995 incl.
  • 6 May to 27 August 1995 incl.

Daily Bag Limits

Waterfowl

Grey, shoveler and mallard duck and paradise shelduck: a maximum of 20 birds for any one species or a total bag not exceeding 20 birds for all species combined.

Pukeko, 10.

Black swan 2, except: (i) in that part of Area A north of a line between Mt Camel in the east and Hukatere in the west where 5 birds per day may be shot and (ii) in that part of Area B on the Poutu Peninsula to the west of Poutu Road and to the south of Te Poa Road where 5 birds per day may be shot.

Upland Game

California and brown quail, no limit.

Cock pheasant, 5.

Shooting hours: 6.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Decoy limit: No limit.

Definition of Areas

Areas A and B correspond to those regions formerly known as the Mangonui/Whangaroa, and Hobson acclimatisation districts respectively as described by Gazette No. 78 of 3 December 1970 at pages 2364 and 2365.

Special Condition

  1. No persons shall wilfully leave on the hunting ground any game bird(s) shot or parts of any game bird(s) shot.

Game That May be Hunted or Killed

  • Grey, shoveler and mallard duck (except that no duck may be hunted on Great Barrier Island)
  • Paradise shelduck
  • Pukeko
  • Black swan (except that no black swan may be hunted or killed on the Waikato Hydro Lakes; Karapiro, Arapuni and Waipapa)
  • Canada goose
  • California quail
  • Cock pheasant

  • 6 May to 2 July 1995 incl.
  • 6 May to 30 July 1995 incl.

Cock pheasant, 3.

Paradise Shelduck (Ruapehu District south of the North Bank of the Wanganui River), 20.

Paradise shelduck (all other unspecified Districts), 8.

Shooting hours: 6.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
