The reference to Christchurch West High School is to be deleted and replaced by Hagley High School.
“Board of selection
The Board of selection to comprise:
(1) The Chairman of Canterbury University College
(2) The Senior Inspector of Schools for the Canterbury Education District
(3) The Headmaster of the Normal School".
The reference to the Chairman of Canterbury University College is to be deleted and substituted by reference to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Canterbury or his nominee. Reference to the Senior Inspector of Schools to the Canterbury Education District is to be deleted and nominee of the Minister of Education for New Zealand is to be substituted. The reference to the Headmaster of the Normal School is to be deleted and Principal of the Elmwood Normal School is to be substituted.
“The Council of University College shall from time to time, with the consent of the Senior Inspector of Schools for the time being of the Canterbury Education District, have power to make, alter and amend regulations dealing with the Scholarship providing that no new regulations or any alteration or amendment to any regulation shall in any way alter or affect the main object and intention of the Founder of the Scholarship.”
The Council of the University of Canterbury shall from time to time have power to make, alter and amend regulations dealing with the Scholarship provided that no new regulations or any alteration or amendment to any regulations shall in any way alter or affect the main object or intention of the Foundation of the Scholarship.
All references to Canterbury University College are to be deleted and reference to the University of Canterbury to be substituted.

The regulations are to be amended as follows (with the existing provisions first mentioned and the suggested alterations thereafter):—
“The winner of the scholarship to receive up to 50 pounds per annum for a period of three years”.
The winner of the scholarship is to receive an award of not more than $3,000.00 in any one year and the number of awards is to be two or more at the absolute discretion of the trustee.
“Examination:—
The University Entrance Examination (Scholarship or Matriculation) shall be taken for the Scholarship.”
The University Entrance, Bursaries and Scholarships qualification shall be taken for this Scholarship.
“(b) he has gained a first or second place in any of the following school championship finals—
(a) swimming
(b) boxing
(c) rowing
(d) athletics
(e) tennis
and that he has taken an active part in leadership in school activities.”
The references to boxing and rowing are to be deleted. Ski-ing is to be added. The qualification is to be amended by adding after the word “final” the words “or if there is no championship final then has achieved a prominent place in—”.
“The Council of Canterbury University College shall from time to time, with the consent of the Rector for the time being of the Timaru Boys’ High School, have power to make, alter and amend regulations dealing with the Scholarship provided that no new regulations or any alteration or amendment to any regulation shall in any way alter or affect the main object and intention of the Founder of the Scholarship.”
The Council of the University of Canterbury shall, with the consent of the Rector for the time being of the Timaru Boys’ High School, from time to time, have power to make, alter and amend regulations dealing with the Scholarship provided that no new regulations or any alteration or amendment to any regulations shall in any way alter or affect the main object and intention of the Founder of the Scholarship.
All references to the Canterbury University College are to be deleted and reference to the University of Canterbury to be substituted.
Increase in awards to preserve their value/number of awards/both scholarships
There is to be added to both regulations the following regulation:—
“The sums specified as maximum sums to be paid in respect of each scholarship may be increased each year so as to ensure that the real value of the awards is maintained”.
The existing provision ...
“All surplus income from the fund of ten thousand pounds shall be accumulated and shall be applied at the discretion of the Council of the Canterbury University College in extending any existing scholarship for a fourth year or in granting another scholarship for a three year period, or to benefit either scholarship in whatever manner the Council may think fit.”
is to be altered to read:—
“All surplus income from the fund shall be accumulated and shall be applied at the discretion of the Council of the University of Canterbury in extending any existing scholarship for a fourth year or in granting other scholarships for a three year period, or to benefit either scholarship in whatever manner the Council may think fit.”
