Notice of Decision of Disciplinary Committee

At a hearing held on 11 September 1995, the Disciplinary Committee of the New Zealand Society of Accountants heard 3 charges against Peter Edward Eliot-Cotton of Auckland.

Peter Edward Eliot-Cotton did not appear before the Disciplinary Committee and pleaded not guilty to the charges. After hearing submissions on behalf of the Investigation Committee, the Disciplinary Committee found the member—

A. Guilty of acts and/or defaults discreditable to an accountant.

B. Conducted himself in such a manner as to render the exercise of the powers of the Disciplinary Committee expedient in the interests of the public and of the society.

C. Was guilty of unprofessional conduct.

Acting under section 24 (3) (c) of the New Zealand Society of Accountants Act 1958, the Disciplinary Committee ordered that Peter Edward Eliot-Cotton pay a penalty of $200, and pursuant to section 24 (3) (c) of the New Zealand Society of Accountants Act 1958, that Peter Edward Eliot-Cotton be censured.

Peter Edward Eliot-Cotton was also ordered to pay to the society the sum of $4,176.00 in respect of the costs and expenses relating to the inquiry by the Disciplinary Committee and the investigation by the Investigation Committee.

The Disciplinary Committee ordered that its decision be published in the Chartered Accountant’s Journal of New Zealand and the New Zealand Gazette with mention of the member’s name and locality.
