(i) Pelorus River tributaries and the mainstream above State Highway No. 6;

(j) Rahu River;

(k) Sabine River;

(l) Travers River;

(m) Wairau River upstream of the Wash Bridge;

(n) Wairau River tributaries;

(o) Warwick River;

(p) Woolley River.

(3) With respect to all other waters a licence holder shall not on any day kill or be in possession of more than four (4) sports fish of which not more than two (2) may be salmon.

(4) A licence holder who on any day, has already taken a limit bag from those waters specified in subclauses (1) and (2) of this clause, shall not, continue to fish in any of those waters, on that day.

(5) A licence holder who on any one day, has taken four (4) sports fish from the waters referred to in subclause (3) of this clause, shall not continue to fish on that day.

  1. Minimum size to be taken—(1) There shall be no minimum size for sports fish, except as provided for in subclause (2) of this clause.

(2) A licence holder shall not have in their possession any sports fish which does not exceed 25 cm in length from the following waters—

(i) Buller River, in the area from and including the outlet of Lake Rotoiti, which comprises of a radius of 100 m from the centre of the meeting lines with the Buller River, to the first bridge across the Buller River on State Highway No. 63.

  1. This Notice shall apply to all fresh water watercourses, ponds, lakes and rivers of all sizes and descriptions within the Nelson/Marlborough Fish and Game Region and the words “water” and “waters” shall have a corresponding meaning.

  2. Revocation—The notice published in the supplement to the Gazette, 151 on Friday, 31 August 1990, on pages 3211–3213, titled District Anglers (Nelson-Marlborough Fish & Game Region) Notice 1990 and amendments 1, 2, and 3 are hereby revoked.

District Anglers (North Canterbury Fish and Game Region) Notice 1994

Pursuant to section 26R (3) of the Conservation Act 1987, the North Canterbury Fish and Game Council hereby gives the following District Anglers Notice.

Notice

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the District Anglers (North Canterbury Fish and Game Region) Notice 1994 and shall come into force on the 1st day of October 1994.

  2. Interpretation—(1) Words and expressions in this notice which are defined in the Conservation Act 1987, or the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983, shall have the meaning so defined.

(2) In this notice the term “high country waters” means Lakes Lilian, Coleridge, Selfe, Evelyn, Grace, Henrietta, Ida, Little Ida, Catherine (also known as Monck), Georgina, Spectacles, Red Lakes, Lyndon Tarn, Lyndon, Rubicon, Pearson, Grasmere, Sarah, Hawdon, Marymere, Vagabonds Inn Tarn, Blackwater, Letitia, Minchin, Sheppard, Taylor, Katrine, Sumner, Mason, and Guyon, and all waters flowing into those lakes; and includes all other lakes and tarns laying west and north of a line joining—

(a) The white posts on the south bank in general line with the Lake Coleridge powerhouse intake pipes on the north bank, on the Rakaia River; and

(b) The white posts at Woodstock on the Waimakariri River; and

(c) The junction of the Hurunui River with the South Branch; and

(d) The junction of the Waiau and Hope Rivers.

(3) “Taking” means fishing and “takes” and “to take” have a corresponding meaning.

(4) “Sportsfish” means every species of freshwater fish that the Governor-General may declare by order in Council to be sportsfish, and includes all trout, salmon, brook trout, mackinaw, splake, perch and tench, and any hybrids and their young.

  1. Open season—(1) Subject to subclause (2) and (3) of this clause and to clause 4 of this notice, there shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of April in the following year (both days inclusive).

(2) In addition to (1) hereof there shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the first Saturday after Queen’s Birthday Weekend to the 31st day of August in the same year (both days inclusive) in the following waters:

(a) The Waiau River downstream from its junction with the Hope River:

(b) The Hurunui River downstream from its junction with the South Branch:

(c) The Ashley River downstream from the State Highway No. 1 bridge:

(d) The Waimakariri River downstream from the white posts at Woodstock:

(e) The Selwyn River downstream from where the South Springston Road meets the river at the upstream end of the Upper Selwyn Huts:

(f) Lake Forsyth, and the Wairewa and Okuti Rivers downstream from the road bridge over each river on the Little River-Te Oka Bay road:

(g) Lakes Taylor, Sumner, Coleridge, Lyndon, and Selfe, except within 200 m of any stream flowing into those lakes:

(h) The Rakaia River downstream from the bridge on the main South Road.

(i) At sea off the Tentburn Hatchery outside 100 metres from the hatchery outfall.

(3) Avon and Heathcote Rivers: In addition to clause 3 (1) hereof there shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of September in the following year (both days inclusive) in the Heathcote River and the Avon River, except as provided in clause 4 (1) (d), clause 4 (1) (e) and clause 4 (3) of this notice.

(4) No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take, any sports fish except during an open season.

  1. Closed season—(1) Notwithstanding clause 3 hereof, there shall be a closed season for fishing for sports fish—

(a) From the 1st day of October 1994 and ending on Friday, the 4th day of November 1994 (both days inclusive) in any high country waters:

(b) From midnight on Friday, the 4th day of November 1994 until midnight on the 30th day of November 1994 (both days inclusive) in any natural or artificial stream and tributary flowing into any high country lake.
