Notice of Proposal to Promote an Indicative Referendum Petition
Pursuant to section 7 of the Citizens Initiated Referenda Act 1993, I give notice that I have received from the Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Inc. a proposal to promote an indicative referendum petition.
The wording of the question proposed to be put to voters in an indicative referendum is—
“Should the inhumane practice of battery egg production be phased out within five years from this referendum.”
Comment is invited on this wording. Anyone wishing to comment must send three written copies to:

Animals Protection Act 1960
Approval of Code of Ethical Conduct Notice No. 5324 (100-A1-07)
Pursuant to section 19A of the Animals Protection Act 1960 and on the advice of the National Animal Ethics Advisory Committee, I hereby approve the code of ethical conduct submitted to me by Aspiring Animal Services Limited which is the same as the approved code of ethical conduct of New Zealand Pastoral Agriculture Research Institute Limited.

Fisheries Act 1983
The Fisheries (Fishing Vessels Subject to Satellite Vessel Monitoring) Notice 1994 (No. 5325)
Pursuant to section 3 of the Fisheries (Satellite Vessel Monitoring) Regulations 1993, and a delegation made pursuant to section 41 of the State Sector Act 1988, the Director (Operations) MAF Fisheries, after consultation with the New Zealand Fishing Industry Board hereby gives the following notice.
Notice
- Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Fisheries (Fishing Vessels Subject to Satellite Vessel Monitoring) Notice 1994.
(2) This notice shall come into effect on the day after the date of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
- Interpretation—In this notice:
“Arrow Squid” means the fish of which the scientific name is Nototodarus sloanii or Nototodarus gouldi commonly known as the arrow squid.
“Jigging” means any fishing method for taking squid by means of a line rather than a net;
“Longlining” means the use of a longline;
“Longline” means any line to which a hook or hooks (whether baited or not) are attached;
“Orange roughy” means the fish of which the scientific name is Hoplostethus atlanticus;
“Scampi” means the fish of which the scientific name is Metanephrops challengeri;
“Tuna” means the fish
(a) Albacore, of which the scientific name is Thunnus alalunga.
(b) Bigeye tuna, of which the scientific name is Thunnus obesus.
(c) Butterfly tuna, of which the scientific name is Gasterochisma melampus.
(d) Northern bluefin tuna, of which the scientific name is Thunnus thynnus.
(e) Skipjack, of which the scientific name is Katsuwonus pelamis.
(f) Southern bluefin tuna, of which the scientific name is Thunnus maccoyi.
(g) Yellowfin tuna, of which the scientific name is Thunnus albacares.
All other words and phrases shall have the meanings as defined in the Fisheries (Satellite Vessel Monitoring) Regulations 1993.
- Carriage of Automatic Location Communicators—
(1) On and from the first day of April 1994 an automatic location communicator shall be carried and operated on board:
(a) All foreign chartered vessels not specified in regulation 3 (1) (b) of the Fisheries (Satellite Vessel Monitoring) Regulations 1993, excepting those foreign chartered vessels used for jigging for arrow squid or used for longlining for tuna; and
(b) All New Zealand fishing vessels exceeding 28 metres in overall length not specified in regulation 3 (1) (c) of the Fisheries (Satellite Vessel Monitoring) Regulations 1993, excepting those New Zealand fishing vessels used for jigging for arrow squid or used for longlining for tuna; and
