Trust Bank Canterbury Community Trust
Trustees Report
On behalf of the trustees of the Trust Bank Canterbury Community Trust, I am pleased to present the fifth annual report.
The trust was established in 1988 by the Government and given the specific task of distributing the dividends received from its investment in the Trust Bank Group for charitable, cultural, philanthropic and recreational purposes beneficial to the communities of Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson.
The trust's investment in Trust Bank New Zealand Limited is proving to be profitable and has enabled the trust to expand its charitable work while maintaining a sound financial position.
During the financial year under review the trust has successfully fulfilled its role by giving donations totalling $2,700,000 to over 1000 community groups. We have been acutely aware of the huge demands on community groups and their need to find finance and although every need cannot always be met the trust is pleased to make such a positive contribution.
Thirty special projects were supported during the year. These included support for a conductive education unit which will serve Canterbury, Nelson and Marlborough, redevelopment of the playground in the Botanical Gardens, helping establish the Canterbury Environmental Trust facility in the Craigieburn Ranges, provision of equipment for the neonatal unit at Christchurch Women's Hospital, plus the building of an arena for Marlborough Riding for the Disabled and extending the accommodation wing of the Riverside Trust in Nelson. The community trust also responded to the snow relief appeal in Canterbury. Fifty tertiary bursaries were established and top up salary support given to 100 Taskforce Green positions throughout the community trust region.
The community trust is pleased to be able to support the people of Canterbury, Nelson and Marlborough in such a tangible way.
VIKI BUCK, Chairperson.
