Absence of the Governor-General Overseas
It is announced from Government House Wellington, that the Her Excellency the Governor-General Dame Catherine Tizard G.C.M.G., D.B.E. will officially represent New Zealand at the State funeral of Rata Sir Penaia Ganilau, President of the Republic of Fiji.
Her Excellency is scheduled to depart from Auckland International Airport at noon on Tuesday 28 December 1993, and returning to Auckland at 10.00 p.m. on Wednesday 29 December 1993.
For the duration of this period of absence, the Chief Justice, The Right Honorable Sir Thomas Eichelbaum G.B.E. will assume the office of the Administrator of the Government in accordance with Clause XII of the Letters Patent Constituting the office of Governor-General.
