Any damage in this category has to be relatively noticeable. Fruit should be free from any defects to be relatively noticeable.

  • Surface russetting, defined as any brown blemish or brown mark on the berry. Up to an aggregate area of 2 square millimetres is acceptable.
  • Torn scars, a small tear is acceptable, large tears exposing the flesh are unacceptable.
  • Bruised fruit/wet fruit that is soft, and weeping is unacceptable.
  • Fruit wet from juice is unacceptable.

Colour:

Fruit must be a uniform blue in accordance with the varietal characteristics.

A maximum of 20 percent of red/purple of the berry is allowable.

The variety Delite is exempt from the above. This variety is acceptable with a purple/blue hue colour over all the berry. It must not be bright red obviously immature.

Cap Stems:

All cap stems to be removed.

Clusters:

These are not to be present.

Maturity:

Overmature must not be present.
Undermature must not be present.

General Information

These requirements are not part of this notice but are to be met in order to facilitate export certification.

  1. Each tray must bear the following particulars in letters legibly and indelibly marked and visible from the outside:

    • Growers Identification Number:
    • Product Type:
    • Grade:
    • Country of Origin:
    • Net Weight.
  2. Each punnet must have the following:

    • Net weight in ounces or grams depending on the market;
    • and brand name.
  3. The blueberries must be packed in such a way as to ensure that they are suitably protected.
