Vice Regal

Departure of the Governor-General Overseas and Assumption of Office by the Administrator of the Government

Her Excellency the Governor-General, Dame Catherine Tizard, G.C.M.G., D.B.E., with members of the Household in attendance, departed from Wellington at 12.44 p.m. on Monday, 19 October 1992 for Niue to celebrate the Island’s 18th anniversary of self-government.

Following the departure of Her Excellency, the Chief Justice of New Zealand, The Right Honourable Sir Thomas Eichelbaum, G.B.E., has assumed the Office of the Administrator of the Government in accordance with Clause XII of the Letters Patent constituting the Office of Governor-General.
