Government Notice

Electoral Act 1956

Notice of Proposed Electoral Boundaries and Classification of Electorates: Extension of Time for Lodging Objections

The Representation Commission hereby gives notice that owing to the extreme weather conditions in the South Island which have affected communications and the ability to inspect the descriptions of the Commission’s proposed boundaries, the time for lodging of objections by persons resident in the South Island has been extended from that stated in Gazette notice No. 118 of 30 July 1992, to 4 p.m. Friday, 4 September 1992.

Objections must be in writing and must clearly state:

(i) the name and address of the objector,

(ii) the electorate(s) to which the objection applies,

(iii) the specific provision objected to,

(iv) the grounds of the objection,

(v) the precise change(s) suggested by the objector to overcome the objection, and

(vi) indicate whether the objector wishes to speak briefly to their objection before meetings of the Commission to be held at Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland and Dunedin in early October 1992.

The Commission gives further notice that any objection may be lodged by either:

delivery by hand to the Chief Electoral Office, 2nd Floor, 191 High Street, Lower Hutt, or;

by facsimile to Fax (04) 566 0153, or

by post to C/- PO Box 31-115, Lower Hutt.

In all cases the objection must be in the hands of the Commission by 4 p.m. on Friday, 4 September 1992.

Dated at Wellington this 31st day of August 1992.
