5.1 International Leased Circuits

5.1.1 Discounts

The following discounts were allowed in each case due to the high capacity requirements of the customer, the commitment to maintain the capacity for the length of the contract, and in anticipation of new tariffs from 1 January 1992.

A customer was allowed a 54.61% discount on a 320Kbit/s TASTREAM service. In addition to the above conditions, this discount was allowed because of the requirement for diversity, and a commitment by the customer to upgrade to greater capacity at a later date.

A customer was allowed a 51.74% discount on a 192Kbit/s TASTREAM service. In addition to the above conditions, this discount was allowed because of the requirement for diversity and the requirement for Auckland and Wellington terminations.

A customer was allowed a 11.9% discount on a 48Kbit/s SKYSTREAM service.

A customer was allowed a 33.1% discount on a 128Kbit/s TASTREAM service.

A customer was allowed a 20.9% discount on 2x64Kbit/s SKYSTREAM service, and up to a10% discount on a 9.6Kbit/s SKYSTREAM service.

A customer was allowed a 11.7% discount on a 256 Kbit/s SKYSTREAM service, and up to a10% discount on a 9.6Kbit/s SKYSTREAM service.

A customer was allowed a 23.4% discount on a 128Kbit/s SKYSTREAM service, a 36.1% discount on a 128Kbit/s TASTREAM service, and a 38.4% discount on a 64Kbit/s TASTREAM service.

A customer was allowed a 10.07% discount on a 64Kbit/s SKYSTREAM service.

5.1.2 "Great Mates-Special Rates"

This was a promotional campaign for trans-Tasman services. For a limited period, TASMAN 1 cable capacity between Australia and New Zealand was allowed at reduced prices, for new circuits, under term contracts of two or more years.

This offer provided an end to end trans-Tasman service between the Central Business Districts (CBD) in Auckland and Wellington, and Sydney and Melbourne. Pricing is fixed for 2 years.

Terms
The terms of the offer were as follows:

  1. Targeted at new Bitstream/Tastream circuits only.
  2. From 2.4-384 Kbit/s only (excluding 320 Kbit/s).
  3. Minimum 2 year term contract.
  4. Contracts had to be signed during the quarter.
  5. Capacity available on a first come, first served basis.
  6. Customer requested RFS date had to be prior to 1 March 1992.
  7. Standard provisioning times applied.
  8. The customer has the option to request upgrade to TASMAN 2 when this capacity becomes available at no extra recurring or establishment cost. Upgrades will take place within the appropriate standard service provisioning and upgrade times.
  9. Prices fixed for the term of the contract, and exchange rate fixed for 2 years and reviewed annually thereafter for longer contract terms.
