Restrictions on the Movement of Animals and Disease Control Area Notice 1991 (Notice No. 5122)

This notice is issued pursuant to section 13A, Animals Act 1967 and section 16, Apiaries Act 1969.

From the date of publication of this notice until this notice is revoked there is hereby imposed a prohibition on the movement of any bees, bee products, or appliances, as defined in Schedule Two, from and within the area specified in Schedule One. This movement prohibition is subject to the following conditions:

  1. No person shall, without the written consent of an Inspector under the Apiaries Act and subject to such conditions as the Inspector may specify, bring or remove, or cause or permit to be removed, any bees, bee products, or appliances from any apiary in the area specified in Schedule One to any other land, whether within that area or elsewhere.

  2. An Inspector under the Apiaries Act may remove any bees which are properly packaged for carriage by any means from the area specified in Schedule One to any other place outside this area or from one place to another within the area specified in Schedule One for the purpose of examination and identification of the disease or for any other purpose specified by the Director-General.

All that area specified in Schedule One is hereby declared to be a Disease Control area for the purposes of section 16, Apiaries Act 1969.

This notice has been made for the control of the movement of bees, bee products and appliances which may be affected with or harbouring a potentially harmful organism or parasite.

Schedule One

Disease Control Area

To include all that area within, a line drawn as described below:

From East side of Motueka River mouth and upstream to Woodstock.

From the Motueka River mouth upstream on the true right bank to Woodstock.

North side of the “Woodstock to Wakefield Road” to Wakefield to the intersection with State Highway 6.

North up the middle of State Highway 6 through Rutherford to State Highway 6 Wairoa River bridge.

Upstream on the true right bank of the Wairoa River to its confluence with the Lee River.

Upstream on the true right bank of the Lee River and its tributary to Mt Rintoul on the Bryant Range.

Northeast along Bryant Range to Mangatapu Saddle.

From Mangatapu Saddle down true left bank of the North branch of the Maitai River, along true left bank of the Maitai River to the mouth of the Maitai River.

Then along the shoreline from the mouth of the Maitai River to the mouth of the Motueka River, and including any islands
