TEXTILE INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT PLAN—SIXTH ALLOCATION

ROUND 88: CALL FOR TENDERS WHICH CLOSED ON 18 JUNE 1991

APPAREL TENDER ALLOCATIONS: 1991/92

Plastic and Textile Baby Pilches Only

The Minister of Commerce, the Hon. Philip Burdon, has agreed that the tender round for two apparel categories—textile and plastic pilches—be called in advance of the general apparel round now scheduled for July 1991.

The amount of the pilch licence to be tendered has been adjusted to reflect a more equitable market situation, and is greater than that which was tendered in the 1990/91 round. The licences will be available from 1 July 1991.

Under the Apparel Industry Development Plan, pilches are scheduled to become exempt from import licensing control from 1 July 1992. No refunds will be made on unused balances from tender No. 6796 and 6797 unless pilches are removed from import licensing prior to that date. The two categories of pilches covered by this round are described below:

Tender No. Item Code Goods: Brief Description No. of $2,000 c.i.f. Units
6796 G. 954 (A) Plastic Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories: Undergarments, viz.; pilches of plastic material 48
6797 G. 901 (B) Textile Articles of Apparel: Pilches of textile material 132

ROUND 89: CALL FOR TENDERS WHICH CLOSED ON 20 AUGUST 1991

APPAREL TENDER ALLOCATIONS: 1991/92

Note: Arising from the Government’s August 1988 decisions on the Apparel Tariff and Access Review, all apparel goods still on licence are scheduled to become exempt from import licence control on 1 July 1992. The amount tendered in this allocation has been reduced to reflect the shortened (10 month) period for which these goods will be subject to import licence. No refunds will be made on unused balances.

Tenderers should be aware that, as part of a wider investigation, a Caucus Sub-Committee has recently reviewed assistance to the apparel industry, and that government decisions have yet to be made in relation to the recommendations made by that Sub-Committee.
