Education Act 1989

Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whakapumau I Te Reo Tuuturu Ki Waitaha

Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989 (as inserted by section 14 of the Education Amendment Act 1989), the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice:

Notice

1. This notice may be cited as the Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whakapumau I Te Reo Tuuturu Ki Waitaha.

2. This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the Gazette.

3. I hereby establish at Hassals Lane, Opawa, Christchurch, a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whakapumau I Te Reo Tuuturu Ki Waitaha.

4. Aims, purposes and objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whakapumau I Te Reo Tuuturu Ki Waitaha. Together with the use of Te Reo Maori as the principal language of instruction the following aims and purposes and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whakapumau I Te Reo Tuuturu Ki Waitaha:

   (i) To provide appropriate education in Maori for children.

   (ii) The school will encourage relationships with local marae and tribes.

   (iii) All staff of the school will have to have an acceptable level of fluency in the Maori language and must be able to uphold the character of the school.

   (iv) The whanau in co-operation with the board of trustees will be encouraged to participate in the operation of the school.

   (v) The whanau, parents and caregivers will be encouraged to involve themselves in the school and all of its activities.

5. The constitution of the board of trustees—the board of trustees shall be constituted in accordance with sections 94 to 99 of the Education Act 1989.
