Education Act 1989

The Tertiary Education Fees Notice 1991, Amendment No. 5

Pursuant to section 227 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice:

Notice

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Tertiary Education Fees Notice 1991, Amendment No. 5, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Tertiary Education Fees Notice 1990 (hereinafter referred to as the principal notice).

(2) This notice shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Gazette.

  1. Certain courses exempt—Clause 5 of the principal notice is hereby amended by inserting, after paragraph (g), the following paragraphs:

“(h) Executive Master of Business Administration degree course at Massey University.

(i) The Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy or the Certificate in Counselling at the Central Institute of Technology.”

Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Rito

Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989 (as inserted by section 14 of the Education Amendment Act 1989), the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice:

Notice

  1. The notice may be cited as the Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Rito.

  2. This notice shall come into force on the day of its publication in the Gazette.

  3. I hereby establish at Otaki, a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Rito and I hereby designate the school as a Kura Kaupapa Maori.

  4. Aims, Purposes and Objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Rito.

Together with the use of Te Reo Maori as the principal language of instruction the following aims, purposes and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Rito.

(i) To provide an education in Maori for Maori children.

(ii) The school will embrace Te Aho Matua O Nga Kura Kaupapa Maori.

(iii) The school will encourage relationships with local marae and tribes.

(iv) All staff of the school will have an acceptable level of fluency in the Maori language and must be able to uphold the character of the school.

(v) The Whanau in co-operation with the Board of Trustees will participate in the operation of the school.

(vi) The Whanau, parents and caregivers will involve themselves in the school and all of its activities.

  1. Constitution of the Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Rito shall comprise:

(a) 5 people appointed by the Minister; and

(b) The principal or principal designate; and

(c) Not more than 4 persons co-opted by the Board.
