Return of the Governor-General from Overseas

His Excellency the Governor-General, the Most Reverend Sir Paul Reeves, G.C.M.G., G.C.V.O., accompanied by Her Excellency Lady Reeves and with members of the Household in attendance, returned to Wellington at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, 1 May from Turkey, having lead the New Zealand delegation to the 75th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landing at ANZAC Cove.

His Excellency has now resumed the performance of all the functions of the Office of Governor-General. Accordingly the Chief Justice of New Zealand, the Honourable Sir Thomas Eichelbaum, G.B.E., has relinquished office as the Administrator of the Government.

Defence Act 1971

Appointments, Promotions, Extensions, Transfers, Resignations and Retirements of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Navy

Pursuant to section 32 of the Defence Act 1990, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Naval Forces.

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVY

Commander J. E. R. Granville to be acting Captain with effect from 5 January 1990.

The following Commanders are placed on the Emergency List of Officers of the Naval Reserves with effect from the date shown:

Bruce Noffke, 30 March 1990.

Geoffrey Armstrong Clark, 31 March 1990.

The appointment of Lieutenant Commander A. V. Taylor is extended until 26 December 1992.

The following Lieutenant Commanders are placed on the Emergency List of Officers of the Naval Reserves with effect from the date shown:

Rodney Owen Davies, 27 January 1990.

Gordon Stuart Adair, B.Sc., 6 January 1990.

Lieutenant Commander K. N. Corles to be temporary Commander with effect from 11 December 1989.

Lieutenant Commander J. R. Meldrum, B.Sc., to be acting Commander with effect from 11 December 1989, and temporary Commander with effect from 2 January 1990.

Commander Paul Anthony Stanley, B.Sc., is re-appointed to the RNZN in the rank of Lieutenant Commander, with seniority from 15 January 1980 and effect from 15 January 1990; terminating on 12 April 1997.

Lieutenant L. G. Milton to be Lieutenant Commander with seniority and effect from 10 December 1989.

The following temporary Lieutenant Commanders to be Lieutenant Commander with seniority and effect from 1 January 1990:

S. E. Fletcher, B.Sc.

Lieutenant G. I. Lowe, N.Z.C.E. (Mech.), to be temporary Lieutenant Commander with effect from 19 January 1990.

The appointment of Lieutenant Francis John Edward Gillies is terminated with effect from 1 January 1990.

Lieutenant Andrew Anthony Fenton, B.Sc., is placed on the Emergency List of Officers of the Naval Reserves with effect from 3 March 1990.

The appointment of Lieutenant Geoffrey Frank Turner is terminated with effect from 19 January 1990.

Lieutenant Brian Rai Simpson, RNZNVR, is appointed to the RNZN in the rank of Lieutenant (on prob.), with seniority from 2 January 1990.
