Education (Foreign Students School Fees Exemptions) Notice 1990
Pursuant to section 4A (1) of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice:
Notice
- Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the (Foreign Students School Fees Exemptions) Notice 1990.
(2) This notice shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Gazette.
- Interpretation—In this notice, unless the context otherwise requires—
“The Act” means the Education Act 1989
“Dependent child”, in relation to any person, means a child or step-child of that person who has not turned 20.
- Certain foreign students exempt from fees—(1) Subject to subclause (2) of this clause, foreign students of the following classes are hereby exempted from the payment of all fees fixed or prescribed pursuant to section 4A (3) of the Act—
(a) foreign students who are in New Zealand to study under an exchange programme approved by the New Zealand Government;
(b) dependent children of any person who is the holder of a work permit granted in accordance with the Immigration Act 1987;
(c) foreign students who—
(i) were enrolled at a registered school in New Zealand before 1 January 1989; and
(ii) have been continuously enrolled at one or more registered schools in New Zealand since that date; and
(iii) are entitled under the Immigration Act 1987 to undertake a course of study or training in New Zealand.
(2) An exemption under subclause (1) (b) of this clause shall expire on the expiry of the work permit concerned.
- Children of former diplomatic staff—Every foreign student who is a dependent child of any person—
(a) who was, in any year, exempt under section 11 (1) (a) of the Immigration Act 1987; and
(b) who has ceased to be so exempt—
is, until the end of that year, hereby exempted from the payment of all fees fixed or prescribed pursuant to section 4A (3) of the Act.

Private Schools Conditional Integration Act 1975
Pursuant to section 10 of the Private Schools Conditional Integration Act 1975, notice is given that a supplementary integration agreement has been signed between the Minister of Education on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen acting through the Manager, District Operations, Central South (Wellington), Ministry of Education pursuant to delegated authority, and the Roman Catholic Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Wellington, as proprietor of the following school:
St Patricks School, Masterton.
The said supplementary integration agreement was executed.
