Education Act 1989

Education (Foreign Student Tertiary Fees Exemptions) Notice 1990

Pursuant to section 4 and section 4A of the Education Act 1989, the Chief Adviser Schools under the power delegated by the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice:

Notice

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the [Foreign Students Tertiary Fees Exemptions] Notice 1990.

(2) This notice shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Gazette.

  1. Certain foreign students exempt from fees—(1) Subject to subsection (1) of section 4A of the Education Act 1989, foreign students of the following classes are hereby exempted from the payment of all fees that they would otherwise be required by subsection 3 of the Education Amendment Act 1989 to pay—

(a) Foreign students who are in New Zealand to study under an exchange programme approved by the New Zealand Government.

(b) Foreign students who—

(i) were enrolled in forms 6 or 7 at a registered school or a course in a registered tertiary institution in New Zealand in 1989; and

(ii) have been continuously enrolled at one or more registered tertiary institutions since that date; and

(iii) have not exceeded the minimum time required to complete the first qualification sought, as assessed at the end of the 1989 examination year, following the 1989 examination results; and

(iv) are entitled by the Immigration Act 1987 to undertake a course of study or training in New Zealand.

  1. Dependents of former diplomatic staff—Every foreign student who is a dependent of any person—

(a) who was, in any year, exempt under section 11 (1) (a) of the Immigration Act 1987; and

(b) who has ceased to be so exempt is, until the end of the year in which the exemption ceased, hereby, exempted from the payment of all fees fixed or prescribed, pursuant to section 4A (3) of the Education Amendment Act 1989.

Electricity Act 1968

Notice of Issue of Draft Electrical Code of Practice for the Selection and Installation of Cables

Public comment is sought on draft document ECP:28 which it is proposed to issue as an electrical code of practice pursuant to the Electricity Act 1968.

The draft document outlines requirements for the selection and installation of cables.

Copies of the draft may be obtained by writing to “ECP:28 for comment”, Chief Electrical Inspectors Office, Energy and Resources Division, Ministry of Commerce, P.O. Box 2337, Wellington.

Closing date for receipt of comments is on the 15th day of March 1991.

Order for Striking Off Practitioners Name

In the matter of the Law Practitioners Act 1982:

Pursuant to section 119 of the Law Practitioners Act 1982, notice is hereby given that on the 6th day of August 1990, the New Zealand Law Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal ordered as follows:

  1. That the name of the practitioner Glen Leonard Haddon be struck off the roll of barristers and solicitors of the High Court of New Zealand.

  2. That the practitioner pay to the New Zealand Law Society the sum of $949.00 in respect of the costs and expenses of and incidental to the inquiry by the tribunal.

  3. That the practitioner pay to the Manawatu District Law Society the sum of $12,250.00 towards the costs and expenses of and incidental to the inquiry by its council.

  4. That the practitioner pay to the New Zealand Law Society and the Manawatu District Law Society respectively, a sum equivalent to the total amount of goods and services tax payable in respect of any part or parts of such costs and expenses.

Notice No. 28, dated on the 14th day of November 1990, is hereby amended by deleting:

“Pursuant to the provisions of section 13 of the Marriage Act 1955, it is hereby notified that the following names have been removed from the list of marriage celebrants under section 11 of the Act:”

and substituting:

“Pursuant to the provisions of section 10 of the Marriage Act 1955, the following names of marriage celebrants within the meaning of the said Act are published for general information.”
