Carrington Polytechnic Notice 1990
Pursuant to section 168 of the Education Amendment Act 1990, the Minister of Education gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
-
(a) This notice may be cited as the Carrington Polytechnic Notice 1990.
(b) This notice shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Gazette.

There shall be a Council to be known as the Carrington Polytechnic Council which shall control the Carrington Polytechnic.

The Carrington Polytechnic Council shall be constituted as follows:
(a) Four members appointed by the Minister of Education.
(b) The Chief Executive Officer of Carrington Polytechnic.
(c) One permanent member of the academic staff of Carrington Polytechnic elected by the permanent members of that staff.
(d) One permanent member of the general staff of Carrington Polytechnic elected by the permanent members of that staff.
(e) One member who is or has been a student of Carrington Polytechnic who shall represent the students of Carrington Polytechnic and who shall be elected by the students of Carrington Polytechnic.
(f) One member appointed by the Carrington Polytechnic Council, after consultation with the central organisation of employers, from nominations from those employer organisations listed in the First Schedule of this notice.
(g) One member appointed by the Carrington Polytechnic Council, after consultation with the central organisation of workers, from nominations from those employee organisations listed in the Second Schedule of this notice.
(h) Five members appointed by five separate electoral colleges which will be reflective of the disciplines taught in each of the five major academic groupings of Carrington Polytechnic, as listed in the Third Schedule to this notice.
(i) One member who shall represent the West Auckland Maori Community and who shall be appointed by the Whanau O Waipareira.
(j) One member who shall be appointed by the Maori Runanga of Carrington Polytechnic.
(k) One member who shall be the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Auckland, or his/her nominee.
(l) No more than two members to be co-opted by the Carrington Polytechnic Council, and who shall be annual appointments to the Council.

To ensure continuity during the transition period, the initial two co-opted positions on the new Council shall be made by the 1990 Council from its own membership.

No person who is a permanent member of staff of Carrington Polytechnic, or who is a student of Carrington Polytechnic shall be eligible for election, appointment or co-option as a member of Council, other than those persons elected or appointed pursuant to paragraphs (b), (c), (d) and (e) of clause 3 of this notice.

The term of office of members of the Council, vacation of office, disclosure of members’ interest and casual vacancies are covered in sections 173–176 of the Education Amendment Act 1990.
Subject to section 173, the maximum term for any member, other than the Chief Executive Officer, shall be three consecutive 4-year terms.

The Carrington Polytechnic Council shall have the power from time to time to add or delete organisations from the First, Second and Third Schedules.

The powers of the Carrington Polytechnic Council shall not be affected by vacancy in the membership thereof.
First Schedule
The Employer Organisations as referred to in subclause 3 (f) of this notice are as follows:
- The Auckland Employers Association
- The Boating Industry Association of New Zealand
- The Furniture Manufacturers Association, Auckland Branch
- The Joinery Manufacturers Association, Auckland Branch
- The Master Plumbers and Gasfitters Association, Auckland Branch
- The Motor Trade Association, Auckland Branch
- The Painting Contractors Association of New Zealand
Second Schedule
The Employee Organisations as referred to in subclause 3 (g) of this notice are as follows:
- The Amalgamated Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union
- The Association of University Staff of New Zealand
- The Bank Officers’ Union
- The Clerical Workers’ Union
- The Distribution Workers’ Federation of New Zealand
- The Electrical Workers’ Union
- The Hotel, Hospital, Restaurant and Related Trades Union of New Zealand
- The New Zealand Labourers’ Union
- The New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation Staff Association
- The New Zealand Meat Workers and Related Trades Union
- The New Zealand Seamen’s Union
- The New Zealand Shop Employees’ Union
- The Northern Hotel and Hospital Workers’ Union
