Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice prohibits indefinitely the supply of certain tubular plastic arm bangles containing silver-coloured metallic flakes or glitter suspended in liquid, intended for use as jewellery by children. These bangles are commonly known as “Glitter Bangles”.

These bangles were declared by the Unsafe Goods (Glitter Bangles) Notice 1989* to be unsafe goods under section 31 of the Fair Trading Act 1986. By virtue of section 31 (2) of that Act that notice expired on 24 September 1990.

It is an offence under the Fair Trading Act 1986 to supply, or offer to supply, or advertise to supply, goods, the supply of which is prohibited under the Act.

Section 33 of that Act also prohibits the importation of such goods into New Zealand.
