same year (both days inclusive): Manganuioteao River, Retaruke River, Tokiahura River and Mangawhero River upstream from Kakatahi, and their tributaries, and the Raetihi Hydro Dam.
(c) From the 10th day of June to the 30th day of September in the same year (both days inclusive):
(i) Lake Rotorangi, from the dam face to the Mangamingi ramp.
(ii) Lake Ratapiko, except the inlet race as shown by signboards.
(iii) Waitara River downstream from the Mangauni River confluence.
(iv) Waiwhakaiho River downstream from the State Highway No. 3 bridge.
(v) Huatoki Stream downstream from Brois Street bridge.
(vi) Hangatahua (Stony) River, Waiua River, Mangahume River, Kaupokonui River and Waingongoro River, all downstream from the State Highway No. 45 bridges.
(vii) All waters south-west of a line from Patea to the Wangaehu and Ohura River confluence, to the Retaruke River confluence, to the Manganuioteao confluence, to the Kakatahi and through Collier’s Junction to the Boundary.
(3) Junior licence holder season—From the 1st day of October to the 30th day of September in the following year (both days inclusive), there shall be an open season for junior licence holders only at Virginia Lake (Wanganui) subject to:
(i) A limit of 2 trout per day.
(ii) No fly casting permitted in this area.
(iii) No fishing from the paved area adjacent to the fountain.
(4) Closed season—There shall be a closed season for fishing from the second Sunday of April in any year to the conclusion of that years duck shooting season (both days inclusive) at Lake Wiretoa and Lake Pauri.
(5) Perch—Subject to subclause (4) above, there shall be an open season from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of April in the following year (both days inclusive) and in that following year from the 10th day of June to the 30th day of September (both days inclusive) for perch in lakes and dams south west of a line from Oakura, to Ratapiko, to Matemateonga, to Kakatahi and through Collier’s Junction to the Boundary.
(6) No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take, any sports fish except during an open season and with approved gear, lures or bait.
- Authorised tackle—(1) No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take, any sports fish except by using a rod and running line.
(2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause, when landing a sports fish, a hand-held landing net may be used to secure or land any such fish;
(3) No licence holder shall, in fishing for sports fish, have in his control, more than one assembled rod, which shall be within 15 metres and under visual observation at all times.
(4) No licence holder shall use—
(a) More than 2 lures, or hooks, or baits as permitted by clause 5 of this Notice.
(b) Any lead or weight fixed or tied below any lure or bait;
(c) Any double or treble pointed hook, or any multiple hook assembly;
(d) Any gaff or landing hook;
(e) Any hook having a gape greater than 13 mm, measured from the point of the hook to the nearest point of the shank;
(f) Any hand-line, stroke-hauling gear, spear gun, paravane, firearm, explosive, spear, net (excluding landing net), trap or any other unsportsmanlike device or gear;
(g) Any electric fishing gear, except as allowed by clause 26(2) of the Act;
(h) Any poison or any medicinal or chemical compound other than a preparation used solely to float or sink a fly or line;
(i) Any gimp or wire trace, or cast of greater diameter than 0.82 mm, or greater length than 1.8 metres;
(j) In conjunction with any spoon, bait, or artificial minnow, any lead or weight fixed at a distance less than 38 cm above the lure.
- Authorised baits and lures—(1) No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take any sports fish by using any bait or lure except as scheduled below:
(a) Artificial fly only: Lake Mangamahoe, Raetihi Hydro Dam.
(b) Artificial fly or minnow, spoon, bait, natural fly, insect, minnow or fish (excluding fish ova, or portion of fish, any mollusca, koura, creeper, huhu or matal grubs, or worm): Manganuioteao River, Retaruke River, Tokiahura River, Mangawhero River upstream from Kakatahi, Ohakune Lake, Rotokura Lake.
(c) Artificial fly or minnow, spoon, bait, natural fly, insect, minnow or fish (excluding fish ova or portion of fish, any mollusca or koura): All other waters in the region.
- Minimum size to be taken—(1) No licence holder shall take, kill, or have in his possession any trout or salmon which is less than the length shown below, when measured from the tip of the nose to the notch of the tail:
(a) All waters south-west of a line from the Patea to the Wangaehu and Ohura River confluence, to the Retaruke River confluence, to the Manganuioteao confluence, to the Kakatahi and through Collier’s Junction to the Boundary: 15 cm.
(b) Lake Rotorangi: 38 cm.
(c) Lake Rotarangi: 20 cm.
(d) All other waters: 33 cm.
(2) Every licence holder taking a sports fish which does not exceed the specified minimum length shall return it to the water immediately with the least possible injury.
- Daily limit bag—(1) No licence holder shall on any one day take, kill or have in his possession a greater number of sports fish than that listed below:
(a) All waters north-west of a line from Opunake to Ratapiko, to Mokau: 3 trout.
(b) All other waters of the region: 6 trout and 2 salmon.
- Revocation—The notices published in the supplement to the Gazette, No. 164 of Thursday, 24 September 1987, on pages 4509–4510 titled District Anglers (Hawera, Stratford and Taranaki Acclimatisation Districts) Notice 1987, and on pages 4521–4522 titled District Anglers (Wanganui Acclimatisation District) Notice 1987 are hereby revoked.
