Description of Waters

(f) Lakes Kaitawa and Whakamarino (Tutira):
(j) The Ruakituri River and its tributaries upstream of its junction with the Hangaroa River:
(k) The Hangaroa River and its tributaries:
(l) The Wharekopae River and its tributaries:
(m) The Opato Stream and its tributaries:
(n) The Waioeka River and its tributaries upstream from its junction with the Opato Stream:
(o) The Ohuere Stream (commonly known as the Midden Stream).

  1. All waters not specified above:
    Natural fly, artificial fly, or artificial minnow.

Explanatory Note
This note is not part of the notice but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice sets the conditions under which a current licence holder may fish for acclimatised fish in the Eastern Fish and Game Region.

Changes relative to previous D.A.N.’s for this area are:

  1. Recognises recent legislative amendments.
  2. A new boundary, which incorporates most of the old “Rotorua District” but excludes the Waimarino area and now includes the old “Tauranga Acclimatisation District”.
  3. Includes float tube within the definition of boat.
  4. Adds a definition of set rod.
  5. Clarifies the open season on the Rangitaiki and hydro impoundments within that system.
  6. Allows for a closed season on Lake Aniwhenua and the Flaxy and Rangitaiki canals for the period of the World Fly Fishing Championships, (19–21) November 1991.
  7. Provides for the exclusion of fish, caught during childrens fishing days, from the minimum length criteria.
  8. Declares the Ngongotaha hatchery stream a closed water.
  9. Allows for the use of set rods if all people on board a boat are licensed and places the responsibility for non compliance with each licensed angler aboard including the person driving or in charge of the boat.
  10. Provides for the siting of a landmark to increase the boat fishing restricted area at the Ohau Channel.
  11. Prohibits fishing from a boat within 15 metres of the log pool stream, Lake Okataina.
  12. Requires the boat anchor to be placed outside of any restricted area.

District Anglers (Hawke’s Bay Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990

Pursuant to section 26R (3) of the Conservation Act 1987 (as added by section 17 of the Conservation Law Reform Act 1990), the Hawke’s Bay Fish and Game Council hereby gives the following District Anglers Notice.

Notice

  1. Title and commencement—This notice may be cited as the District Anglers (Hawke’s Bay Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990 and shall come into force on the 1st day of October 1990.

  2. Interpretation—Words and expressions in this notice which are defined in the Conservation Act 1987, or the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983, shall have the meaning so defined.

Lures Permitted

  1. Open season—(1) Subject to subclauses (2), (3), and (4) of this clause, there shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of April in the following year (both days inclusive).

(2) There shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of September in the following year (both days inclusive) in the following waters:

(a) Lake Tutira, except Sandy Creek and the lake outlet channel:
(b) The Tuki Tuki River where it passes through the Tuki Tuki wildlife refuge between the junction of the Tukipo River and the Mount Herbert Road Extension:
(c) The Waipawa River within the boundaries of the Waipawa Borough:
(d) Lake Oroua:
(e) The Ngaruroro River between the Chesterhope Bridge and Fernhill Bridge:
(f) The Mohaka River downstream from the Mangatainoka confluence, and the Waipunga, upstream to the falls:
(g) Lake Te Pohue, north of the two signposts on the south side:
(h) The larger of the two lakes, known as Twin Lakes, at Kutipanapango.

(3) There shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of June to the 30th day of September in the same year (both days inclusive) in the following waters:

(a) The Tuki Tuki River downstream from the State Highway 50 road bridge:
(b) The Ngaruroro River downstream from its confluence with the Taruarau River:
(c) The Tutaekuri River downstream from its confluence with the Mangaone Stream:
(d) The Waipawa River downstream from State Highway 50 road bridge:
(e) The Porangahau River downstream from its confluence with the Mangamaire Stream:
(f) The Karamu Stream and its tributaries:

(4) There shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of May in the same year (except both days of the opening weekend of the game season) in the following waters:

(a) The Tutaekuri River upstream from its confluence with the Mangatutu Stream:
(b) The Ohara Stream:
(c) The Makaroro River:
(d) The Ngaruroro River upstream from its confluence with the Taruarau River:

(5) No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take, any sports fish except during an open season.

  1. Authorised tackle (1) No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take, any sports fish except by using a rod and running line.

(2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause,

(a) When playing a sports fish, a landing net may be used to secure or land any such fish:
(b) For keeping sports fish alive, a keep net of not more than 1.8 metres in length may be used in the water from which that fish was taken.

(3) No licence holder shall, in fishing for, taking or attempting to take, sports fish, or have under their control, more than one assembled rod and running line.

(4) No licence holder shall fish for sports fish unless within 15
