Departure
Departure of the Governor-General Overseas and Assumption of Office by the Administrator of the Government
His Excellency the Governor-General, the Most Reverend Sir Paul Reeves, G.C.M.G., G.C.V.O., Q.S.O., accompanied by Her Excellency Lady Reeves, Q.S.O. and with members of the household in attendance, departed from Wellington at 8.20 a.m. on Wednesday, the 1st day of August for an official visit to Melbourne, Australia. Their Excellencies will undertake engagements in relation to Melbourne 1990 celebrations. The Governor-General will deliver an address to the Council of Economic Development of Australia.
Following the departure of His Excellency, the Chief Justice of New Zealand, the Right Honourable Sir Thomas Eichelbaum, G.B.E., has assumed the Office of the Administrator of the Government in accordance with clause XII of the Letters Patent constituting the Office of the Governor-General.
