Departure

Absence of Governor-General From New Zealand

His Excellency the Governor-General, the Most Reverend Sir Paul Reeves, G.C.M.G., G.C.V.O., accompanied by Her Excellency Lady Reeves were absent from New Zealand from Wednesday, 3 January 1990 to Friday, 5 January 1990 inclusive and travelled to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea where they attended the State Funeral for the late Governor-General of Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Sir Ignatius Kilage.

Their Excellencies, attended by the Official Secretary, Paul Canham, travelled in a flight of the RNZAF.

The Chief Justice of New Zealand, the Honourable Sir Thomas Eichelbaum, G.B.E., assumed the Office of Administrator for the period His Excellency was absent from New Zealand.
