Appointments, Promotions, Extensions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Navy

Pursuant to section 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Naval Forces.

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVY

Commander R. J. Eckford, O.B.E., to be acting Captain with effect from 28 March 1989, and Captain with seniority from 31 March 1989 and effect from 1 April 1989.

The appointment of temporary Commander D. Reid is extended until 5 May 1991.

Acting Commander G. A. Clark to be Commander with seniority and effect from 6 April 1989.

Lieutenant Commander T. R. Rae, N.Z.C.E.(TELECOMMS), is transferred to the Active List of the RNZNVR with effect from 11 April 1989.

David Keith Washer is re-appointed to the RNZN in the rank of Lieutenant Commander, with seniority from 28 March 1986 and effect from 28 March 1989; terminating on 27 March 1995.

The following temporary Lieutenant Commanders to be Lieutenant Commander with seniority and effect from the date shown:

• M. J. Eskrick, 7 March 1989.
• J. A. Easton, 25 April 1989.

Lieutenant G. S. Jackson, N.Z.C.E.(TELECOMMS), to be temporary Lieutenant Commander with effect from 1 April 1989.

Temporary Lieutenant Commander Clive Raymond Lawrence is placed on the Emergency List of Officers of the Naval Reserves until 22 April 1991, with effect from 23 April 1989.

The appointment of Lieutenant (on prob.) C. J. McCarthy, B.SC., DIP.ED., DIP.TCHG., to the RNZN is confirmed.

Lieutenant Paul William Bell, B.SC., is placed on the Emergency List of Officers of the Naval Reserves until 3 April 1993, with effect from 4 April 1989.

The appointments of the following Lieutenants (on prob.) to the RNZN are confirmed:

• M. B. Jackson, B.SC., DIP.TCHG.
• D. B. Wills, DIP.TCHG.

Lieutenant Bryan John Mackle is placed on the Emergency List of Officers of the Naval Reserves until 21 April 1991, with effect from 22 April 1989.

The following temporary Lieutenants to be Lieutenant with seniority and effect from the date shown:

• D. A. Gibbs, B.E.(MECH.), 15 July 1987.
• M. A. Morgan, B.E.(ENG.SC.), 1 January 1988.
• M. J. Watt, N.Z.C.E.(PP), 1 October 1987.

Sub Lieutenant M. H. M. Stumpel to be Lieutenant with seniority and effect from 1 January 1989.

Midshipman (on prob.) M. C. Dyne to be Sub Lieutenant (on prob.) with seniority and effect from 1 April 1989.

Midshipman (on prob.) M. A. de Reeper to be Ensign (on prob.) with seniority from 1 January 1989 and effect from 7 February 1989.

The appointment of Midshipman (on prob.) Aaron James Mills, B.M.S., lapses with effect from 25 February 1989.

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVAL VOLUNTEER RESERVE

Lieutenant Commander George Ross Gibson, M.B.E., V.R.D.*, reverts to the Retired List of the RNZNVR with effect from 18 January 1989.

Lieutenant Commander K. A. McGrath, V.R.D.: the notice published in the Gazette, 16 February 1989, No. 27, page 618, is cancelled and the following substituted: "Lieutenant Commander Kenneth Arnold McGrath, V.R.D., is placed on the Retired List of the RNZNVR with effect from 30 November 1988".

Lieutenant Commander Thomas Roberton Rae, N.Z.C.E.(TELECOMMS), RNZN, is appointed to the Active List of the RNZNVR in his present rank, with seniority from 14 February 1987 and effect from 11 April 1989; terminating on 14 February 1998.

The seniority as Lieutenant of temporary Lieutenant Commander M. Jacobs, B.E.(MECH.), N.Z.C.E., is post-dated to 19 April 1983.

Lieutenant Michael Courtney Fraser, LL.B.(HONS), reverts to the Emergency List of Officers of the Naval Reserves until 11 September 1989, with effect from 1 January 1989.

The appointment of Lieutenant (on prob.) E. B. Hurley, N.Z.C.E.(TELECOMMS), to the RNZNVR is confirmed.

Lieutenant Steven John Tollenaar, RNZN, is appointed to the Active List of the RNZNVR in his present rank, with seniority from 23 October 1980 and effect from 1 April 1989; terminating on 26 November 2000.

Ensign R. L. Patel, LL.B., to be Sub Lieutenant with seniority and effect from 1 January 1989.

EMERGENCY LIST OF OFFICERS OF THE NAVAL RESERVES

Lieutenant Commander Richard John Howland is placed on the Retired List of the RNZN with effect from 27 March 1989, and appointed to the Special Service List of the Emergency List of Officers of the Naval Reserves, in the rank of Lieutenant with effect from 28 March 1989; terminating on 27 March 1992.

Lieutenant Commander D. K. Washer is transferred to the Active List of the RNZN with effect from 28 March 1989.

Lieutenant S. J. Tollenaar is transferred to the Active List of the RNZNVR with effect from 1 April 1989.

The following are placed on the Retired List of the RNZN with effect from the date shown:

• Commander Robert Pate, O.B.E., 7 April 1989.
• Lieutenant Commander John Edgar Greenwood, 13 April 1989.
• Lieutenant Commander John Richard Louisson, B.E.(ELECT.)(HONS), N.Z.C.E.(TELECOMMS), 13 April 1989.

The period of service of the following on the Emergency List of Officers of the Naval Reserves is terminated with effect from the date shown:
