The Fisheries (Coromandel Scallop Area Closed Season) Notice 1989 (No. 4941)
Pursuant to sections 85 and 86 of the Fisheries Act 1983, the Deputy Group Director, acting under authority delegated by the Director-General of Agriculture and Fisheries, and after consultation with the Director-General of Conservation and the Fishing Industry Board, hereby gives the following notice:

Title and commencement—This notice may be cited as the Fisheries (Coromandel Scallop Area Closed Season) Notice 1989 and shall come into effect on the 3rd day of November 1989.

Interpretation—In this notice, the term:
“Scallop” means the shellfish Pecten novaezelandiae.
“Coromandel Scallop Closed Area” means
Area K: Being the waters enclosed by a straight line from Devlins Point (at 36° 44.60'S and 175° 49.60'E), north to the point 36° 35.00'S and 175° 50.60'E, thence due east to longitude 176° 28.10'E, thence due south to latitude 36° 44.60'S and then due west back to Devlins Point.
Area L: Being the waters enclosed by a straight line from Devlins Point (at 36° 44.60'S and 175° 49.60'E) north to the point 36° 35.00'S and 175° 50.60'E, thence due west to mean high water mark on the Coromandel Peninsula, thence by mean high water mark in a general southerly and then easterly direction back to Devlins Point.
Area R: Being the waters enclosed by a straight line from Cape Rodney (at 36° 16.70'S and 174° 49.30'E) to Te Hue Point on Little Barrier Island (at 36° 11.20'S and 175° 03.00'E), thence by mean high water to the southernmost point of Little Barrier Island (at 36° 14.00'S and 175° 06.00'E), then due south to latitude 36° 28.40'S, thence due west to longitude 174° 53.00'E, thence north to the easternmost tip of Tawharanui Peninsula (at 36° 22.20'S and 174° 52.10'E) and thence by mean high water back to Cape Rodney.
Part of Area W: Being the waters enclosed by a straight line from Thumb Point on Waiheke Island (at 36° 44.45'S and 175° 10.40'E), to Cape Colville (at 36° 28.30'S and 175° 20.60'E), thence by mean high water to Turipeka Point on the Coromandel Peninsula (at 36° 36.50'S and 175° 25.65'E), thence to the northernmost point of Motukahaua Island (at 36° 39.30'S and 175° 22.55'E), thence by straight line to the south-westernmost point of Motuoruhi Island (at 36° 44.60'S and 175° 23.80'E) and thence by straight line back to Thumb Point.
Area X: Being the waters enclosed by a straight line between Thumb Point on Waiheke Island (at 36° 44.45'S and 175° 10.40'E) and the south-westernmost point of Motuoruhi Island (at 36° 44.60'S and 175° 23.80'E), thence south to Deadmans Point (at 36° 51.20'S and 175° 24.60'E), thence west to the northern end of Second Bay on Ponui Island (at 36° 53.90'S and 175° 12.00'E), thence by mean high water to the north-easternmost point of Ponui Island (at 36° 50.20'S and 175° 12.80'E), thence north by straight line to the southernmost point of Rotoroa Island (at 36° 49.60'S and 175° 11.90'E), thence by mean high water to the northernmost point of Rotoroa Island (at 36° 48.55'S and 175° 11.80'E), thence north by straight line to the southernmost point of Pakatoa Island (at 36° 48.20'S and 175° 11.70'E), thence by mean high water to the northernmost point of Pakatoa Island (at 36° 47.60'S and 175° 11.45'E), thence by straight line to Waiheke Island (at 36° 46.80'S and 175° 11.55'E), thence by mean high water back to Thumb Point.

Closed season for scallops determined—There is hereby determined to be a closed season for the taking of scallops by commercial fishers within the Coromandel Scallop Closed Area commencing on the 3rd day of November 1989 and expiring with the 19th day of December 1989.

Standard Grade for the Export of Buttercup Squash Notice (Ag. 12/2/14; No. 4940)
This notice revokes the Standard Grade for the Export of Buttercup Squash Notice (No. 4479; Ag. 12/2/14) published in the New Zealand Gazette, on 1 December 1988 at page 5156.
Pursuant to regulation 13 of the New Zealand Grown Fruit and Vegetables Regulations 1975*, the Director-General of Agriculture and Fisheries hereby gives notice that the Standard Grade for the Export of Buttercup Squash shall be set out in this notice.

Title—(1) This notice may be cited as the Standard Grade (Export of Buttercup Squash) Notice 1989.
(2) This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its notification in the New Zealand Gazette.

Interpretation—Unless the context otherwise requires, terms and expressions used in this notice shall have the same meaning as in the New Zealand Grown Fruit and Vegetables Regulations 1975*. Certain of these terms and expressions are applicable to buttercup squash:
Definition of Terms:
“Colour” means typical of the variety.
“cured” means that at the time of loading into the export sea container the squash has been held for an adequate time period to allow:
The cut surface of the stalk to dry;
The remainder of the stalk to have commenced shrivelling to a firm texture with a brown withered surface.
(Note: Adequate time period is considered to be 48 hours from time of harvest.)
“Mature” means that the squash has reached a minimum maturity at harvest as indicated by:
(a) the development of prominent brown flecks on the stalk; and
(b) the development of a dull dark green colour to the skin, with the loss of a glossy sheen on the skin.
