Local Government Act 1974

Temporary Members of the Local Government Commission Appointed

Pursuant to section 8 of the Local Government Act 1974, and at the request of the Local Government Commission, the Minister of Local Government hereby appoints:

to be a temporary member of the said Commission for a term commencing on 4 January 1989 and ending on 1 May 1989;

Video Recordings Act 1987

Decision of the Video Recordings Board of Review

  1. The distributor, Blue Diamond Movies Ltd., sought a review of the video Fresh Kill.

  2. The Video Recordings Board of Review (the Board) has re-examined the video in accordance with section 38 of the Video Recordings Act 1987 (the Act).

  3. The video tells the story of Alan Chester who leaves a happy family life to go to Hollywood where he believes he will be a successful film star and live a life of luxury in California. Within a few days of arriving in Hollywood his dreams and life are shattered.

    Alan is induced into helping an attractive young woman, Leona, with whom he quickly becomes infatuated. He learns that Leona has stolen $2 million from the local ganglord, Manny, who was her lover.

    This sets the scene for the chain of violence that follows as Manny attempts to recover his stolen money which he has accumulated through drug dealing. Leona and Alan are pursued by Manny and his gang. In the course of the video family, friends and associates of Leona and Alan are murdered in cruel, horrific and violent ways. In the space of a few days Alan changes from a stable and principled young man to a criminal who is totally without scruples or remorse and who by the end of the video, shortly before he is himself killed, wants to establish a “drug empire” over which he will be the “Goddamn king”.
