employees of the council, and who shall be employed by the council.

(k) One member to represent health services interests who shall be elected by various health services representatives on the Polytechic Nursing Advisory Committee.

(l) One member who shall represent Maori people in Taranaki and who shall be appointed by the Taranaki Maori Trust Board.

(m) One member who shall represent the students of the Taranaki Polytechnic and who shall be appointed to a term of office of 1 year by the Executive Committee of the Polytechnic Students' Association.

(n) Not more than 3 members may be co-opted by the council itself, if and when it thinks fit.

  1. (1) Subject to the provisions of this clause and the provisions of paragraph (k) of clause 3 of this notice, the members of the Council of the Taranaki Polytechnic shall hold office for a term of 3 years, but may, from time to time, be reappointed or re-elected.

(2) Except in the case of a casual vacancy, every member shall hold office until the 31st day of May in the third year after the year of his appointment or election, and if, on the 31st day of May, the appointment or election, of his successor has not been notified to the council he shall continue to hold office until the date on which that appointment or election is notified.

(3) If any member dies, or resigns his office by writing under his hand addressed to the council or the chairman or the secretary thereof, or is absent without leave from the meetings of the council for 3 consecutive months, or while holding office becomes for any reason ineligible to remain a member, the casual vacancy so created shall be filled, as soon as practicable thereafter, by the appointment or election of a member in the manners in which the vacating member was appointed or elected, and the member appointed or elected to fill the vacancy shall hold office for the residue of the term of office of the member whom he replaces.

(4) The powers of the council shall not be affected by any vacancy in the membership thereof.

Further Extending the Time Within Which Committee of Inquiry into Allegations Concerning the Treatment of Cervical Cancer at National Women's Hospital and into Other Related Matters May Report

To all to whom these presents shall come, and to:

SILVIA ROSE CARTWRIGHT of Auckland, a District Court Judge:

Whereas, by Warrant dated the 10th day of June 1987*, you, the said Silvia Rose Cartwright, were appointed to be a Committee of Inquiry to inquire into the matters set out in that Warrant, being matters concerning the treatment of cervical cancer at National Women's Hospital and other related matters:

And whereas by the said Warrant you were required to submit your report not later than the 31st day of August 1987:

And whereas by a further Warrant dated the 25th day of June 1987† the time within which you were required to submit your report was extended until the 31st day of March 1988:

And whereas by a further Warrant dated the 18th day of March 1988‡ the time within which you were required to submit your report was further extended until the 10th day of June 1988:

And whereas it is expedient that the time for so reporting should be further extended as hereinafter provided:

Now, therefore, pursuant to section 13 (3) of the Hospitals Act 1957, I, DAVID FRANCIS CAYGILL, Minister of Health, hereby extend until the 29th day of July 1988 the time within which you are so required to report, without prejudice to the continuation of the liberty conferred upon you by the said Warrant dated the 10th day of June 1987 to report your proceedings and findings from time to time if you should judge it expedient to do so:

And I hereby confirm the said Warrant dated the 10th day of June 1987 and the Committee thereby constituted, save as modified by the said Warrant dated the 25th day of June 1987 and by this Warrant.

In the matter of the Indecent Publications Act 1963, and in the matter of an application by the Comptroller of Customs for a decision in respect of the following publications: Glory Hole Gang; Gay Action; Country Fair; Centurian Book 1; Foxhunt 2; Prisoner of Lust

Decision

These publications were privately imported through the port of Whangarei and subsequently seized by the Collector of Customs in Whangarei. The importer has subsequently disputed forfeiture and the publications have therefore been referred to the Tribunal prior to the commencement of condemnation proceedings pursuant to the Customs Act 1966.

These publications are explicit male homosexual magazines consisting principally of photographs without text although gay action has a limited written content. All of the magazines, with the exception of Centurian, depict both oral and anal sex, although in Centurian there is one implicit photograph of anal
