No. 87
Pursuant to the provisions of the Australia - New Zealand Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement (ANZCERTA) applications are invited for a share of the allocations of Manufacturer’s Exclusive Australian Import Licences (MEALs) for the 1988/89 import licence period. The amounts available in each import licence item code are detailed below.
Applications are open to any New Zealand domiciled manufacturer of goods falling in the item code concerned. Holders of current (1987/88) MEAL licences who apply will be given preference up to the level of their current licence plus inflation of 7.3 percent provided they have used at least 75 percent of previous licences. New applicants and existing licence holders seeking an increased allocation will be considered for the balance remaining.
Deadline. Applications must be received by 10 June 1988. Any part of the MEAL allocations not taken up after this date will be immediately transferred to the tender pool and it will not therefore be possible to consider late applications.
Notes. Licences will be valid for the period 1 July 1988 to 30 June 1989. Licences will only be able to be used to import goods of Australian origin. This is not a call for tenders and tender bids will not be accepted. Only manufacturers of goods falling within the item code in which licence is sought are eligible. There is no charge for MEAL licences.
Applications should be addressed to: The Executive Officer—Programme Co-ordination,
Department of Trade and Industry,
P.O. Box 1473,
Wellington.
Fax applications will be accepted. The departments fax number is (04) 734 638.
All applications should include the following information, so far as it is applicable, for each of the item code in which licence is sought:
- The item code;
- Brief description of the product which it is intended to import;
- The amount requested;
- The value of production for the domestic market of goods in the item code in the company’s last financial year (please specify) at ex-factory prices;
- The name of the Australian supplier;
