Radio Interference Notice

Radio Regulations 1987

The Radio Interference Notice 1988

Pursuant to regulation 36 of the Radio Regulations 1987*, the Acting Secretary of Trade and Industry hereby gives the following notice:

Notice

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Radio Interference Notice 1988.

(2) Except as provided by subclause (3) of this clause, this notice shall come into force on the day after its publication in the Gazette.

(3) Clauses 7 and 8 of this notice shall come into force on the 1st day of September 1988.

  1. Interpretation—(1) In this notice, unless the context otherwise requires,—

“CISPR” means the International Special Committee on Radio Interference of the International Electrotechnical Commission;

“Noise field” means the radio frequency energy generated by an electrical device as a result of its operation;

“Test site” means an area suitable for interference evaluation as defined in CISPR publication 11, 1975.

(2) A reference in this notice to a CISPR publication includes a reference to every amendment to that publication, which is in effect on the date on which this notice comes into force.

(3) The limits specified in this notice shall be applied using the following interference measuring apparatus and measurement methods conforming to the specifications of CISPR:

(a) Interference shall be measured by equipment employing a quasi-peak type detector conforming to the characteristics defined in section 1 of CISPR publication 16, 1987.

(b) Voltage measurements in the frequency range 0.15 MHz to 30 MHz shall be made using an artificial mains V-network conforming to the requirements defined in section 2 of CISPR publication 16, 1987.

(c) Power measurements in the frequency range 30 MHz to 1000 MHz shall be made by using an absorbing clamp placed around the mains supply cord of the apparatus at a point of maximum absorption and calibrated by substitution with a known source, as defined in section 2 of CISPR publication 16, 1987.

(d) Field strength measurements of directly radiated interference shall be made using the antenna characteristics and methods defined in section 3 of CISPR publication 16, 1987.
