Traffic Regulations 1976

Notice of Exemption of Certain Motor Vehicles from the Requirement to be Fitted with Interior Door Handles

Pursuant to regulation 90 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976* and pursuant to the powers delegated to me by the Secretary for Transport, I, Hugh Cameron Matheson, Senior Automotive Engineer, hereby exempts from the requirements of regulation 82 of the said regulations the motor vehicles described in the Schedule hereto.

Schedule

Any motor vehicle designed for the carriage of prisoners and which is operated by the Police, provided that means of exit from the prison compartment is included and which is capable of being released from inside, by operating a control in the driver’s compartment, or outside of the vehicle in an emergency.

Exemption of Certain Motor Vehicles from the Requirements Relating to Seat Belts

Pursuant to regulation 90 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976* and pursuant to the powers delegated to me by the Secretary for Transport, I, Hugh Cameron Matheson, Senior Automotive Engineer, hereby exempts any motor vehicle designed for the carriage of prisoners, which is operated by the Police, from the requirements to fit seat belts to any rear seats that are occupied by prisoners, as specified in paragraph (c) of regulation 78A of the said regulations.

Pursuant to section 48 (2) (a) of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Act 1986, and pursuant to section 39 (a) of the Transport Act 1962; under powers delegated to me by the Secretary for Transport in an instrument of delegation dated 2 November 1987, I, Geoffrey Thomas Henry, Assistant Director of Road Transport, hereby approve the following organisations to be defensive driving organisations, for the purposes of section 68 of the Transport Act 1962, and regulation 32 of the Transport (Drivers Licensing) Regulations 1987:
