Biographical Details

Agnes Rasmussen is senior mistress at Tangaroa College, Otara, Auckland.

Dr Ngapare Hopa is a lecturer in anthropology at Waikato University.

Valerie Smith is the co-ordinator and information officer at the Disability and Information Service, Dunedin.

Dr Vera Levett is a clinical psychologist and family therapist.

Mira Szaszy, C.B.E., J.P., is the chairperson of the Waiora Maori Committee, Ngaitaki, and a past president of the Maori Women’s Welfare League.

Rob Laking is a Deputy Director-General in the Department of Social Welfare and is responsible for policy advice to Government and development of new developmental services and change to existing programmes. He has a B.A. (Hons) and M.P.A. (Harvard) and previously worked in the New Zealand Treasury. From 1984–85 he was adviser to the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, Bahrain. He took up his current appointment in 1986.

Mr John Yuill is a Deputy Director-General in the Department of Social Welfare and is responsible for management and resources. He has A.C.A. and D.P.A. qualifications and previously worked in the Education Department and in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. He was appointed to his present position in 1986.

Alan Nixon is an Assistant Director-General in the Department of Social Welfare and is responsible for the Programmes and Services Division. He has held various positions in the Social Welfare Policy and Benefits Divisions (1972–84 and 1984–1986 respectively). Major projects over this period included developing the Disabled Persons Community Welfare Act, and developing the current structure and systems for administering social security benefits. He was Assistant Director-General (Policy Development) before being appointed to his present position.

Valuers Act 1948

Removal of Name from Register of Valuers

Pursuant to regulation 27 of the Valuers Regulations 1949, it is notified that the name of William Raymond Wright has been removed from the Register of Valuers in terms of section 31 (1) (c) of the Valuers Act 1948. Following an inquiry into charges of making gross overvaluations and excessive mortgage recommendations in respect of two former dairy factory properties at Te Aroha West and Manawaru, Mr Wright has been found guilty of such incompetent conduct in the performance of his duties as a valuer as in the opinion of the Board renders him unfit to be registered under the Valuers Act 1948.

Merger or Takeover Proposal

Notice is hereby given of the following determination by the Commerce Commission, pursuant to section 66 (6) of the Commerce Act 1986.

Decision No. 214 (Ref: AUT/MT EIO/1)

On 21 December 1987 the Commerce Commission determined to give a clearance that Eachaim Investments (NZ) Ltd. may acquire up to 100 percent of the issued share capital of Fluid Control (NZ) Ltd.

The full text of the determination is available for inspection at the Commission’s offices in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. Copies may also be purchased on application to the Commission (P.O. Box 10-273, Wellington).
