Appointments, Promotions, Extensions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the New Zealand Army

Pursuant to sections 24 (1), 27 (2) and 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Army.

REGULAR FORCE

Chief of Defence Staff

Major General J. A. Mace, C.B., O.B.E., to be Lieutenant General and is appointed Chief of Defence Staff for a period of three years, with effect from 1 December 1987.

Chief of General Staff

Brigadier D. S. McIver, O.B.E., to be Major General with seniority and effect from 1 December 1987, is appointed Chief of General Staff for a period of 3 years and transferred to the Generals' List.

Colonels' List

Colonel A. L. Birks, O.B.E., to be Brigadier with seniority and effect from 12 December 1987, and is transferred to the Brigadiers' List.

Royal Regiment of N.Z. Artillery

Lieutenant Colonel M. A. Harvey, B.C.A., to be temp. Colonel with effect from 7 December 1987.

Captain R. J. Hitchings, B.A.(MIL.), to be acting Major with effect from 7 December 1987 and temp. Major with effect from 14 December 1987.

Royal N.Z. Armoured Corps

Major Graham Martin Beddie, M.A.(HONS), is transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in his present rank with effect from 28 November 1987.

Major D. P. McGregor, B.A.(MIL.), to be temp. Lieutenant Colonel with effect from 6 January 1988.

Major K. R. Brown is re-engaged until 8 March 1989.

The Corps of Royal N.Z. Engineers

Major A. T. Beaver to be acting Lieutenant Colonel with effect from 14 December 1987, and temp. Lieutenant Colonel with effect from 18 December 1987.

Lieutenant Gary Ernest Pullen, N.Z.C.D., is transferred from the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in the rank of temp. Captain, with seniority as Lieutenant from 21 June 1985 and effect from 12 November 1987; on a fixed engagement terminating on 22 September 2001.

Supernumerary List

Captain and Quartermaster Wyatt George Watling Williams is posted to the Retired List in the rank of Major and Quartermaster, with effect from 23 November 1987.

Royal N.Z. Infantry Regiment

Lieutenant Colonel R. N. Upton, M.B.E., DIP.SC.(MIL.), to be temp. Colonel with effect from 18 December 1987.

The following Majors to be temp. Lieutenant Colonel with effect from the date shown:

• A. M. Howell, 21 December 1987.
• M. A. Hughes, 7 December 1987.

Major William Anthony Blair, B.A.(HONS), is transferred from the Retired List in his present rank, with seniority from 21 August 1985 and effect from 9 November 1987; on a fixed engagement terminating on 24 October 1991.

Captain R. S. Campbell to be acting Major with effect from 30 November 1987.

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) T. M. Tarsau is re-engaged until 11 May 1995.

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) D. J. Gettins is re-engaged until 21 January 1992.

Lieutenant and Quartermaster Brian Evan Holmes is transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in his present rank with effect from 18 November 1987.

Lieutenant C. S. Hamlin to be temp. Captain with effect from 14 September 1987.
